Catch15rank/position

[Hand Play That Elementary School Kids Can Enjoy] Catch
Catch

A finger-play game called “Catch,” where friends, teachers, and guardians try to catch each other’s fingers.

It’s even more fun with more people.

Make a tube with one hand, and with the other hand stick up your index finger and put it into the tube made by the person next to you.

When the leader calls out “Catch,” the hand making the tube squeezes to catch the finger inside, while the index finger tries to pull out so it doesn’t get caught in the other person’s tube.

You succeed if you catch the other person’s finger or if you manage to pull your own finger out of the tube in time! The caller can make it more game-like and exciting by faking people out with several words that start with “kya/kyu/kyo” sounds like “cabbage” (kyabetsu) or “cat” (kyatto) before finally saying “Catch.”

Magnet and pipe cleaner toy16rank/position

No.108 “Magnet and Pipe Cleaner Toy” [Handmade Toy by a Nursery Teacher]
Magnet and pipe cleaner toy

Let me introduce a toy using magnets and pipe cleaners.

Prepare an empty 6-piece cheese box, bottle caps, pipe cleaners, a plastic sheet, drawing paper, string, clear tape, vinyl tape, and glue, and let’s make it.

Line the inside of the empty cheese box with drawing paper to create the base.

Cut the plastic sheet into a circle to make a window.

Choose the colors of the pipe cleaners, cut them to length, and place them inside the cheese box to get ready.

Put a magnet inside a bottle cap, and tape two caps together with vinyl tape so the magnet won’t fall out.

Make a hole in the cap, thread the string through, and create the magnetic part that will move the pipe cleaners.

By holding the magnet against the outside of the cheese box, the pipe cleaners inside gather and move, making it a fun toy to play with!

Rock-Paper-Scissors Train17rank/position

[Play] Rock-Paper-Scissors & Recommended Activities [Nursery/Kindergarten]
Rock-Paper-Scissors Train

A game that combines playing train and rock-paper-scissors: “Rock-Paper-Scissors Train”! The children sing a song while playing rock-paper-scissors; those who lose attach themselves behind the winner.

Because they move together with friends, they naturally walk slowly, making it great for indoor play.

Let’s learn the rules of rock-paper-scissors while gently touching and interacting with friends.

Rock-paper-scissors can be a good opportunity for communication among children.

Since they might be so absorbed that they don’t watch their feet, be sure to keep a close eye on them to prevent injuries.

Monster Hunter Game18rank/position

The oldest class played the Wild Animal Hunt game♪
Monster Hunter Game

The game that incorporates rhythm play elements is the “Mōjū-gari Game” (Wild Animal Hunt Game).

The teacher becomes the leader and calls out, “Let’s go hunt wild animals,” and the children imitate it.

It gets more exciting if you add variations like, “We’re not afraid of wild animals,” or “We’ve even got spears!” During the game, when the teacher says the name of an animal—like “We found an elephant!”—the children group themselves into the same number of people as the number of syllables in that animal’s name.

You can also raise the difficulty by choosing animals with longer names to suit the children’s age.

Water moving through a straw?19rank/position

[For older preschoolers and up] Fun experiment♪ Can water move through a straw?
Water moving through a straw?

Would you like to try a fun experiment where water moves on its own? All you need are two clear cups, a bendable straw, and water! Cut the bendable straw so that both sides are the same length with the flexible section in the middle.

First, fill one of the cups with plenty of water.

Next, fill the inside of the straw with water and then hold both ends with your fingers so it doesn’t spill.

Finally, insert each end of the water-filled straw into each cup, and you’re done.

The water will automatically travel from one cup to the other through the straw.

If you add color to the water, you can also enjoy watching the movement and how the colors mix.

This experiment uses the principle of a siphon.

Be sure to observe the mysterious movement of water together with children!

The Tyrannosaurus, often called the most fearsome carnivorous dinosaur, is loved by both adults and kids.

How about recreating that Tyrannosaurus with origami? If you use a relatively large sheet, about 26×26 centimeters, you’ll get a striking, powerful form! The key is to focus on making precise creases as you fold.

It might be difficult at first, but with practice you’ll improve.

Let’s make a meticulously detailed Tyrannosaurus and show it off!

Pyramid Rock-Paper-Scissors

Perfect for class or grade-level activities! Here’s a fun idea for Pyramid Rock-Paper-Scissors.

Rock-Paper-Scissors is a simple, classic game that always gets everyone excited, and with a few tweaks, it becomes even more engaging for kids! After splitting into Defense and Offense teams, the Defense team stands on the lines drawn in a pyramid shape.

The Offense team aims to defeat the King by playing rock-paper-scissors against the Defense team and advancing with each win.

A key rule for the Offense team: if you lose a round, you must return to the starting point!
