Gen Hoshino’s hit song “Koi” is beloved not only by men but also by women.

The track served as the theme song for the wildly popular drama “We Married as a Job!” (Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu), which became a social phenomenon and earned nationwide acclaim.

You still see it pop up often in karaoke histories, don’t you? While the song has a catchy melody, it also packs a punch with accents on the second and fourth beats, giving it a surprisingly solid groove.

In terms of name recognition and ease of getting into the rhythm, it’s a surefire crowd-pleaser.

A number whose powerful message—affirming that just being alive is wonderful no matter the circumstances—resonates deeply, as it portrays people grappling with troubles in everyday life.

Koji Tamaki’s solo single “Den-en,” released in July 1996, became widely beloved as the theme song for the Fuji TV drama Coach, in which he starred.

The song strongly reflects Tamaki’s own experiences during a time of mental anguish, and his soul-baring vocals sparked a huge response, achieving the highest individual performer rating of 59.9% at the 47th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen.

It’s the perfect track for lifting yourself up when you’re feeling down or for getting fired up together with friends.

Their high-level yet comical dance, paired with lyrics that clearly explain historical events, makes learning fun for all ages.

Sun’s Komachi AngelB’z82rank/position

B’z, the duo that has delivered numerous masterpieces.

While B’z is strongly associated with cool, rock-flavored tracks, they also have some slightly pop-leaning songs.

Among those, one of the most popular is surely “Taiyō no Komachi Angel.” The vocal range is mid2A to hiA—high, but relatively narrow overall.

If you adjust the key properly, you shouldn’t have trouble with vocal production.

It’s also a song everyone can sing together, so consider adding it to your repertoire.

HONEYL’Arc〜en〜Ciel83rank/position

HONEY [15th L’Anniversary Live]
HONEYL'Arc〜en〜Ciel

When it comes to artists that men in their 40s often listened to, doesn’t L’Arc~en~Ciel come to mind? This time, I’d like to introduce “HONEY.” One of my students practiced this song too.

L’Arc~en~Ciel’s vocal range is surprisingly on the lower side.

I think it’s easy to sing for people with a typical male range plus the ability to use falsetto.

The chorus is very clear and uplifting, so it’s easy to add dynamics, and rock fans will love it! On the flip side, the key might be how to keep the low notes from getting muffled.

If you’re not used to a certain range, both low and high notes can require a lot of breath.

When singing low notes, imagine releasing a slow, steady mass of air—your body will resonate more easily and you’ll hear your own voice better.

And above all, the groove matters! It also makes it easier to project your voice, so sing with energy and get into the groove!

HabitSEKAI NO OWARI84rank/position

SEKAI NO OWARI’s hit song “Habit.” Many listeners were likely astonished by this track, which departs from their usual fantastical worldview and instead delivers somewhat caustic, realistic lyrics.

As the groove is emphasized throughout, the song sits within a generally standard vocal range for a SEKAI NO OWARI track, from mid1 C to mid2 F.

However, since the highest note (mid2 F) appears fairly frequently, it may be better to lower the key slightly depending on the singer’s range.

While it’s overall on the easier side, there are several rap-like sections, so it’s recommended to firmly memorize the flow that matches the lyrics.
