This song portrays emotions swaying between the fleeting nature of youth and the weight of reality.

As SUPERCAR’s debut single, it’s memorable for its refreshing blend of shoegaze and guitar pop, paired with poignant lyrics that trace dreams and longing.

Koji Nakamura’s delicate melodies as the lead vocalist intertwine with Junji Ishiwatari’s poetic words, gently resonating in the heart.

Released in September 1997 by Epic Records Japan, it was also included on the album Three Out Change.

It’s a track with a mysterious charm that seems to bring back nostalgic memories when you listen to it during a drive, at dusk, or in moments when you feel a touch of melancholy.

SUPERCAR is a stylish rock band that disbanded in 2005 to much regret.

Just casually adding one of their songs will make people see you as a fashionable girl.

Especially if the other women around are only picking trendy hits, you can easily create a sense of uniqueness.

If there’s a man there you’d like to move things toward a romantic relationship with, put this song in around the middle of the karaoke session to impress him.

Hailing from Aomori, SUPERCAR burst onto the scene in 1997 while still in their teens and early twenties, shocking listeners with a sound that distilled the contemporaneous Western music of the time.

As their career progressed, they took a distinctive turn toward electronica, and their influence on subsequent Japanese rock has been immense—so much so that today, in the Reiwa era, they’re spoken of as a legendary band.

In their early days, their sound bore strong influences from alternative rock, UK rock, and shoegaze, and they have many songs that are easy for beginner bands to cover.

Among them, Lucky is especially recommended.

Since both the bass-vocal and guitar-vocal parts involve playing while singing, there aren’t any particularly difficult phrases, and if any role carries the most weight in the ensemble, it’s the lead guitar.

The arrangement—very UK-rock-like—has the lead playing a sort of countermelody throughout the entire track, making it an excellent practice piece for beginner guitarists.

This is “STORYWRITER” by SUPERCAR, which was used as an insert song in the anime Eureka Seven.

For those who watched the show—especially men—it’s one of those tracks that gets your energy up the moment that refreshing intro hits.

It’s an anime song I’d love for you to listen to again, like when you’re tired from work or driving home.

Produced by Yoshinori Sunahara, formerly of the techno unit Denki Groove, the track fuses pop sensibilities with a polished techno sound.

It also stands as a pioneering song in future pop, paving the way for artists like YUKI and Perfume.

The track was used as the theme song for the film Ping Pong, starring Yosuke Kubozuka.
