The heavy, weighty sound is striking.

It’s a song by THE BACK HORN, a four-piece rock band formed in 1998.

It’s included on their first album, “Ningen Program,” released in 2001.

It’s a masterpiece packed tightly with their early, raw impulse.

Their 13th single.

Around this time, THE BACK HORN had begun to dial back the murky intensity and darkness of their early work and was gradually shifting toward a more pop, accessible sound.

This single—including this track—captures that vibe, coming across as crisp, refreshing, and cool.

Their 22nd single, released in 2014.

It’s a rare rap-style track for THE BACK HORN.

The way the words line up amid a swaying, ominous atmosphere gives a distinctly THE BACK HORN impression.

The surge in the chorus that unfolds from the dark tone of the first half is excellent, and you can see both the audience and the band enjoying it at live shows.

This is their major-label debut single, released on April 25, 2001.

It starts with a heavy intro, but once it moves into the first verse, it shifts to a ska-influenced, poppy feel.

However, when the chorus hits, it becomes intense again, revealing a glimpse of the “passion” that would become a key element in discussing The Back Horn’s future work.

The guitar solo is notable, but equally distinctive is the melodious bassline underneath it, showcasing the high skill level of bassist Mitsuhune Okamine, who was still a support member at the time.

The first track on their early album, ‘Resurrected Sun.’ A dark, sludgy, power-packed killer song that’s quintessentially them.

Yet it also features arrangements with a touch of jazz, making it a piece that, even in their early days, showcases their monstrous prowess to the fullest.

It’s a single released on February 19, 2014, and the song is titled “Symmetry.” Compared to the previous release, “Battle Ima,” coming out just five months later shows an impressive creative drive.

The coupling track includes a cover of Yumi Matsutoya’s “Haru yo, Koi.” The label is SPEEDSTAR RECORDS.

From the intro through the verse to the chorus, the song gradually builds up, and the drum tempo in particular is insanely cool—I was completely captivated.

Personally, it’s a track I want to listen to around the beginning of summer as the season rolls in.
