Joji Yamamoto Popular Song Rankings [2026]
Joji Yamamoto is an enka singer who, in his student days, even played at Koshien as a high school ballplayer.
After enduring an unfavorable apprenticeship period, he began his path as a star singer when Michinoku Hitori Tabi, released at age 30 as his last chance, became a massive hit.
He is also known for writing lyrics and composing under the pen name “Kotogorō.”
This time, we present a ranking of Joji Yamamoto’s most popular songs—please enjoy the voice of a performer who has become a leading figure in the enka world!

Joji Yamamoto Popular Songs Ranking [2026] (21–30)

Set against a gorge in Yamaguchi Prefecture, this song portrays a man who vows with firm resolve during a solitary journey.
The harsh natural scenery awaiting spring overlaps with the protagonist, who, though clumsy, earnestly tries to face forward—something many listeners may find relatable.
Released in February 2012 to coincide with Joji Yamamoto’s birthday, the song was also included that same month on the maxi single “Kokoro no Kizuna ~Ashita o Shinjite~.” It’s a work that carries a gentle warmth, as if softly supporting those who strive on their own while thinking of their hometown.

For those looking for a classic enka song with a wistful vibe but in a bright major key rather than a minor one, I highly recommend “Fuurin.” It’s a single released by Joji Yamamoto in 2006, and everything from the song’s structure and melody line to Yamamoto’s slightly restrained vocal delivery exemplifies true enka.
The transition from the very low notes in the first half to the build-up into the chorus—and then the climb from the low register to the final, soaring melody—can make it easy to slip off pitch, so it’s worth practicing those sections consciously.
The overall difficulty is on the lower side, and I’d encourage enka beginners to give it a try.
