Music producer HASE-T, who has led the Japanese reggae scene as a DJ and track maker.

As part of his 20th anniversary producing project, the single “Yūgure Summer feat.

Scha Dara Parr & PUSHIM” surely thrilled many fans with its title-worthy collaboration with Scha Dara Parr and PUSHIM.

Its lyrical melody laid over a sprightly off-beat rhythm, paired with catchy rap, is perfect for turning up the vibe in the car while you drive.

It’s an emotional number with a summery ensemble that feels just right.

KSWD775

KSWD775

Female rapper 775 from Senshu, Osaka.

She’s a female rapper, but more of an artist from the reggae scene, and every track strongly reflects reggae influences.

In the lyrics of this song about Kishiwada in Osaka, you’ll hear words familiar to Kishiwada locals, such as the Danjiri Festival, canned chuhai, and happi coats.

The structure keeps you engaged, shifting suddenly into an enka-like flow with powerful vibrato, then into hardcore, tricky flows.

absoluteBES

Reggae singer BES, known for his powerful vocals and highly relatable lyrics, has won broad popularity.

He’s especially acclaimed for his love songs, with sweet vocals and emotionally gripping lyrics that leave an impression.

Among his tracks, the one I’d recommend as background music for a drive or a BBQ is “Zettai” (“Absolutely”).

Although he has many love songs, this one focuses on themes like dreams and life.

Its positive lyrics and riddim will bring a bright vibe to your drive or BBQ.

Don't Worry Be HappyBobby McFerrin

An a cappella song released by Bobby McFerrin.

It’s an astonishing track in which he uses no instruments, creating all the sounds solely with his body.

The lyrics were inspired by the Indian mystic Meher Baba.

The song won a Grammy in 1989 and was featured in films such as Cocktail.

GIANT KILLINGCHEHON

GIANT KILLINGCHEHON

CHEHON, who continues to work energetically, including collaborations with overseas rappers, brings us a fiery motivational song titled “GIANT KILLING.” The term “giant killing” means a major upset, and by repeating that phrase, the song encourages people who are taking on high hurdles.

Since the music video was filmed on a soccer field, it’s likely the lyrics were written with the World Cup in mind.

That said, it should resonate with anyone striving hard in any field.

greenCHEHON

This is a track that CHEHON, during his early days as a young artist in the Osaka reggae scene, unleashed from the underground, clearly changing the course of the scene.

It became an explosive hit in the reggae world at the time, garnered huge popularity, and even inspired numerous cover versions.

At first glance, it seems like a straightforward love song, but the lyrics are strikingly profound, crafted with double meanings.

It’s an indispensable classic when talking about CHEHON, so be sure to check it out.

One LinkFire Ball

Rather than for a daytime BBQ, I’d recommend “One Link” for a laid-back evening.

It’s a piece written by the reggae group FIRE BALL with the theme of human connections.

The song begins with a gentle piano melody and sings about love and bonds with those who matter most.

As it progresses, more sounds and artists join in and the sound grows, a structure that fits perfectly with the message of the lyrics.

Give it a listen and take a moment to reaffirm your bond with someone important to you.
