friend

The piano-accompanied song “Friends” is one that startles you a little right from its opening lyrics.

How do we make friends over the long years of elementary school? Friends with whom we spend so much time; friends with whom we gradually come to understand one another.

This song teaches us the wonderful value of their presence.

spring melancholyMrs. GREEN APPLE

This song delicately portrays the fleeting nature of youth and the emotions of adolescence.

It’s said that Motoki Omori, the vocalist of Mrs.

GREEN APPLE, composed it the day after his high school graduation ceremony.

It’s a perfect track to listen to during graduation season.

The song was tied in as the theme for Suntory’s “Craft Boss” commercial and became widely beloved.

In March 2024, it surpassed 100 million cumulative streams on the Billboard JAPAN charts.

Why not give it a listen this spring, a season that evokes partings and growth? Its heartfelt lyrics and beautiful melody are sure to brighten graduation and school entrance ceremony season.

I’ve been waiting for you.

I’ve Been Waiting for You — Lyrics by Keiko Hitomi, Music by Shinya Ujiie
I’ve been waiting for you.

“I’ve Been Waiting for You” is a choral piece often featured in collections of children’s choir works.

The melody is very gentle and easy to sing, making it a great choice even for lower-grade students.

If all the current students sing this song to welcome the first graders, I’m sure the first graders will be absolutely delighted when they hear the lyrics! It’s moving to be able to express the joy of meeting so directly.

And not only is the singing easy, but the piano accompaniment is also simple to play, so it’s wonderful that children can perform it with ease.

A song full of light and hope from BURNOUT SYNDROMES.

Released in November 2016, it’s also known as the opening theme for the popular anime Haikyu!!.

Singing about the importance of taking on challenges toward your dreams and goals, this piece will gently encourage freshmen who feel anxious in a new environment.

It’s a song we’d love anyone taking a new step to hear.

right palm

“Migite no Hira” (The Palm of the Right Hand) is a choral piece composed by Kensaku Tanikawa with lyrics by Wakako Kaku.

Both have created numerous works, and in particular, Wakako Kaku has written songs for artists such as Kenji Sawada and Kyoko Koizumi.

She is also highly versatile, having worked on choral suites and pieces for music competitions.

I’m not sure if this song speaks to the worry children feel when starting elementary school—like wondering, “Can I make 100 friends?”—but to me it sounds like it gently stands by those anxious feelings: “What kind of kids will be there?” “Will I be able to talk to them?” I’m sure that by the time you listen to the end, those worries will be blown away!
