When September comes, there are so many fun autumn crafts! Here are some ideas for seasonal projects like grapes, dragonflies, cosmos flowers, and moon-viewing.
Four-year-olds are at a stage where they’re starting to take interest in the nature around them.
Let’s encourage them to use their imagination and carefully create works with their fingertips.
Using familiar materials such as construction paper, origami paper, and paper plates, why not enjoy making autumn crafts together with the children? These activities let them savor the textures of the materials and experience the joy of expressing themselves freely.
Because the children’s creations are treated as works of art, we use the term “seisaku” (production/artwork) in the text.

September crafts for 4-year-olds are a hit! A special collection of fun ideas with autumn motifs (21–30)
Grapes made with original stickers
Draw swirling lines with a purple water-based marker on aluminum foil, then rub a sheet of round stickers over the drawing.
Once the marker color has transferred to the stickers, cut the base construction paper into the shape of a bunch of grapes.
Stick on the round stickers to represent the grapes, add a stem and leaves made from other pieces of construction paper, and you’re done.
You can use store-bought stickers as-is, but adding this extra step lets you create original stickers, which I highly recommend.
Using several shades from the same color family for the markers will give the colors more depth and character.
Be sure to use the stickers after the ink has dried.
Three-dimensional grapes with just one sheet!
Cut a sheet of construction paper into a rectangle and make two slits at each end.
On the left side, roll the middle section with slits toward the front and glue it, then roll the remaining sections toward the back and glue them.
On the right side, roll the middle section toward the back and glue it, then glue the remaining sections toward the front.
Fold the paper in half so the rolled parts form three rows, then cut along the fold with scissors to shape the stem.
Make leaves and vines out of origami paper and attach them to the grapes to finish! Try making them in various colors.

Super huge! Tissue paper grapes
Here’s an idea that’s perfect when you want to make an impactful autumn wall display.
Stack several sheets of tissue paper and accordion fold them.
Once folded, tie the center with wire.
Gently pull apart the layers of tissue paper one by one from the inside; when all the layers are fluffed, shape it into a round form.
This makes one grape.
Make eight of these, then arrange them in four rows as 3, 2, 2, and 1.
Glue them onto the base, and add a stem made from construction paper and leaves made from tissue paper to finish.
When you display it on the wall, adding a vine is a nice touch too.
[Ages 3 and up] Hedgehog Snip-Snip Craft
Using everyday paper plates to make hedgehogs is a great craft for 3-year-olds who are starting to enjoy expressing themselves.
Get paper plates, scissors, construction paper, and glue ready.
Prepare the hedgehog bodies in advance, and have the children make cuts around the edge of the paper plate, snipping from the outside toward the inside.
It’s also a good idea to draw guide lines so they can cut along them.
By drawing the hedgehog’s face themselves, each child can create their own original hedgehog.
Giving the hedgehogs names and using them in play can make the activity even more fun.
Swirly Grapes
When it comes to the king of autumn flavors, grapes surely take the crown.
Let’s make a seasonal craft by rolling construction paper.
Prepare construction paper, scissors, and glue.
Cut the construction paper into a teardrop shape to create the base for the grapes.
Cut long, thin strips of construction paper and roll them tightly with your fingertips to form grape shapes.
Glue the rolled “grapes” onto the base in a three-dimensional way, making sure there are no gaps.
Finally, cut and roll green construction paper to make the stem and cluster top, then glue it on to finish.
Try making it while paying attention to finger dexterity, size, and overall balance.

I’ll show you how to make simple yet bright and cute cosmos flowers.
Start with the front side of the origami facing up and fold it in half into a square twice.
Fold it into a triangle aligning the edges, then unfold both sides.
On the loose, flappy side, draw lines imagining the petals of a cosmos flower, and cut along them with scissors.
Open the origami and stick a yellow sticker in the center to finish.
If you make a bunch and decorate your room, it will instantly feel full of autumn! It’s also perfect for practicing scissor skills.

Crickets you can make from age 3
Let’s make an origami cricket, a creature kids love to find on walks.
Prepare one sheet of origami paper to get started.
Fold it into a triangle twice, then open up the pocket area as you unfold.
Fold both sides toward the center line, then open up the pocket area again as you unfold.
Shape the cricket’s body and legs by sharpening the tips as you fold.
By making crisp creases, you’ll end up with a cool, three-dimensional cricket that can stand.
