[Easy Magic] Special Feature on Smartphone Magic Tricks (41–50)
A smartphone levitating in midair
It’s a levitation magic trick where, by “sending energy” while holding a finger along the edge of a smartphone, the phone that should fall stays upright.
The method is very simple: run a thread inside the phone case and hook the end that comes out of the charging port hole onto your finger.
When you make the motion of sending energy, you twist the thread hooked on your finger and pull it taut to keep the phone from tilting.
Key points include using a phone case with colored edges so the thread isn’t visible, and performing the twisting motion subtly so it isn’t noticed.

Magic that makes characters appear on a calculator app
It’s a magic trick where the numbers on a smartphone’s calculator app transform into a message.
This trick uses built-in iPhone features and doesn’t require any special sleight of hand.
The final screen the audience sees is actually an image with text added to a screenshot of the calculator app! Once you’ve created the image using an editing app, make a small change in your iPhone settings, then open the prepared image in the Photos app and launch the Calculator from Control Center.
You’ll see a small “Photos” label in the top left; if you tap it, you’ll return to the Photos app and the prepared image will appear.
During performance, skillfully cover the small “Photos” label with your hand so it’s not noticeable when you tap it.
Practice a few times in front of a mirror to ensure a smooth performance.
A pen pierced through a smartphone
It’s a magic trick where a pen seems to pass through a smartphone.
Hold them so the phone is in front and the pen is behind, and tap them together a few times—then the pen suddenly appears to pass through to the front.
The secret is that at the moment it “passes,” you tilt the pen and swap the front/back positions of the phone and pen.
If you do this smoothly, it really looks like it went through.
Practice in front of a mirror or while filming with your phone, and experiment to find a natural-looking method.
Simple tricks like this take practice, but once you can do it, you’re sure to amaze people.
An angel jumps onto a smartphone
How about trying some high-tech magic? In this trick, the angel design from a playing card jumps onto a smartphone.
First, hold the card face down and bring the phone close to it.
Then, after a countdown, the angel design that was on the card disappears and appears on the phone’s screen.
Just prepare a video in advance that goes from black to the angel appearing, and have it ready to play.
Also, tie the card’s angel with a thread from above so it can be removed quickly.
Coin Penetration Magic
This is a magic trick that uses an app called “card2phone” to make it look like a coin passes through and ends up inside your smartphone screen.
You take a screenshot of your own home screen and use that image so it appears as if the coin has entered your actual home screen.
By shaking the phone, you can make it look like you’re taking the coin back out, making it a sure-fire trick to amaze people.
A scarf pierces through a smartphone.
This is an amazing magic trick where a scarf appears to pass through a smartphone! All you need is a smartphone, a scarf, and a plastic sheet you can buy at a 100-yen shop.
Cut the plastic sheet to a size that can be hidden in your palm, punch a hole in it, and thread the scarf through—then you’re ready.
After showing the phone, set the plastic sheet against the screen as if pressing it on, and if you pull the end of the scarf from the far side of the phone, it will look as though it’s passing right through the screen.
You’d never guess such a simple setup could pull this off, right!
take out a smartphone in midair
This is a magic trick where you seemingly pull a smartphone out of thin air, and it requires no preparation.
The phone you use is just an ordinary smartphone.
Since there’s no need to set anything up in advance, you can even borrow someone else’s phone.
First, hold the smartphone by pinching it between your chin and index finger.
Think of it as hiding the phone behind your finger.
From the audience’s point of view—looking straight on—it will appear as if you’re not holding anything.
Then simply produce it with your other hand, and it will look like the phone appeared out of nowhere.
