The Hidden Fortress

Star Wars contains many homages to the films of director Akira Kurosawa, who had a major influence on George Lucas. For example, the peasant duo Tahei and Matashichi from The Hidden Fortress served as the models for C-3PO and R2-D2!

Han Solo’s ultra-famous line “I know” from Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back was actually written in the script as “I love you too,” but it was changed based on Harrison Ford’s idea. He felt that Han Solo wouldn’t straightforwardly say he loved someone, which really shows how well he understood the character, doesn’t it?

Takadanobaba

According to director J.J. Abrams, who is also known as a Japan enthusiast, the name “Takodana” came from the fact that the hotel he stayed at on his first trip to Japan was in Takadanobaba. He revealed this himself at a press conference in Japan for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In the United States, all Star Wars films from Episodes 1 through 6 were released in May. The reason, it is said, is to coincide with director George Lucas’s birthday, May 14, 1944.
