[FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL Appearance] Comments from Sunnyside members on their visit to Japan!
The band “Sunnyside” from Melbourne

Sunnyside from Melbourne, Australia is a six-piece brimming with funky personality.
They have a wide range of activities, and their next destination is Japan.
At first glance they look as mellow as Mac DeMarco’s backing band, but their sound is full of upbeat, groove-heavy tracks like Nile Rodgers.
Sunnyside is renowned for giving their all in every live performance as if it were their last, and back home their shows at nightclubs and jazz bars are so popular that tickets always sell out.
By weaving in a funky bassline with perfectly timed saxophone entries, they create a trippy vibe, and their hallmark is performing every song as a jam session.
Their songwriting motto—born from an uncompromising passion for music—is to create tracks so worthy that when fans hear their sound, they’ll genuinely want to experience it live. That very style is Sunnyside’s pride.
The organizers of FUJI ROCK took notice of Sunnyside, who possess rare energy and talent, and made them an offer.
At this year’s 2019 FUJI ROCK Festival, two performances have been scheduled for the second day.
Playing twice at FUJI ROCK is a new challenge for them, but they’re well-prepared, as they have extensive experience performing at Australian festivals such as NYE on the Hill, Something Unlimited, and the Mullumbimby Music Festival.
Signed with Marthouse Records and released their first full-length album, “Body Heat” (2018).
They are introduced as a band that blends upbeat and melancholic elements—dubbed a 'manic melancholic' band.
As work on their new album progresses, they’ve also scheduled live shows in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nagoya, and there’s no doubt they’re a band to watch with high expectations for what they’ll do next.
We received comments from the Sunnyside members upon their visit to Japan!
Mac (drummer): Playing at festivals has always been our dream. I really think festivals are the best way to connect with all our fans. In the future, we want to be able to play more and more at big festivals like Fuji Rock.
Sam (guitar): What we care about are good music, good times, and the sparkling sun. I’m super excited to bring all of that to everyone this July. To all our fans in Japan, it’s truly an honor to be able to come. We’ll definitely deliver good vibes from Melbourne to Japan, so make sure you come see us.
Gordon (bass): I can’t wait to go to Japan and tour! If you see us, don’t hesitate to come talk to us. It’d be even better if we could meet new friends and maybe collaborate on something together. Get ready to dance! And Mac—watch out! (lol)
Archie (sax): To all our Japanese fans who’ve already been listening to our music, thank you so much! But if you haven’t seen the real thing yet, you still don’t know our true sound. That’s why I want everyone to feel it in your bodies on this tour. We’re coming at it with everything we’ve got—it’s going to be a blast, and we’ll bring you sounds you haven’t heard before. I’ve heard so many great things about Japan from a lot of people, so I can’t wait to actually be there and meet so many of you.
