[Sunset Songs] Songs about sunsets and the evening glow you’ll want to listen to at dusk

I’ve put together songs you’ll want to listen to while watching the sunset.

When you gaze at a sky dyed by the setting sun, you feel the day coming to a close, and at the same time a hard-to-describe sense of poignancy and loneliness spreads through your chest.

In fact, there are many timeless, heart-wrenching masterpieces themed around sunsets, regardless of era.

Whether rock, pop, or folk, each track is filled with melancholy, nostalgia, and bittersweet emotion.

Give them a listen when you want to calm your mind or when you’re in the mood for a tender, sorrowful ballad.

[Sunset Songs] Songs about sunsets you want to listen to at dusk (21–30)

Connected SunsetDragon Ash

It’s beautiful, but sunsets somehow make you feel a little lonely, don’t they? At times like that, you can’t help wanting to meet someone and feel connected.

Dragon Ash’s “Tsunagari SUNSET” is perfect for anyone who feels that kind of sadness when looking at a sunset.

The song captures the personal thoughts vocalist Kj had at the time when he wrote the lyrics.

Getting involved with others can sometimes be painful, but even so, we humans still find ourselves wanting to be connected to someone.

It’s a track that makes you want to reflect on human connection as you look at a lonely sunset.

I’ll give you a circle (correct mark).NO PLAN

NO PLAN is a vocal group formed by six comedians: Teruyoshi Uchimura, Ryo Fukawa, Summers, and TIM.

This song was used as the ending theme for the film Crayon Shin-chan: The Storm Called! The Kasukabe Boys of the Evening Sun, and I think many people heard it in theaters at the time.

The movie itself evokes a sunset Western, and while the vocals are by no means polished, that somehow makes them all the more flavorful and endearing.

Much like the anime series, it’s a track that both adults and kids can enjoy.

Madder-colored skyRemioromen

When you hear the rock band Remioromen, which season comes to mind? Many people probably think of “Konayuki,” but their 2007 song “Akanezora” is also a masterpiece.

It isn’t set in autumn but in a spring evening, capturing a dramatic twilight that could only belong to spring.

Dusk naturally stirs a sense of melancholy, and the lyrics, sung in vocalist Ryota Fujimaki’s distinctive voice, loosen the tear ducts.

It’s a song that quietly stays by your side as a companion to your own evening twilight.

Betrayal at SunsetShiatāburukku

Is there any sunset song as emotional as this? It’s a track by the rock band Theatre Brook, led by Taiji Sato, released in 2010 as their 13th single.

It made waves when it was chosen as the opening theme for the anime Durarara!!.

The sound brims with masculinity, and Sato’s strong, resonant vocals really hit home.

There’s also a certain wistfulness in it that truly evokes the mood of a sunset.

If you’re looking for a cool song to play in the evening, definitely give this one a listen.

October’s (2025 mix)Harukamirai

How about a slightly bittersweet song that conjures up scenes of a crimson sunset sky and a flowing river? This work by Harukamirai, a rock band from Hachioji, portrays the determination to live powerfully “here and now,” even while carrying uncertainty and frustration about the future.

The contradictory emotions of youth—feeling more constrained the more you seek freedom—surge into your chest atop a melody that makes you want to hum along.

The track was included on the November 2017 mini-album “Hoshikuzu no Uta” and was later rebuilt with a new sound.

On a contemplative walk home, or on a night when you wish someone would sing just for you, listening to it might gently stay by your side.

setting sunToukyou Jihen

Centered around Ringo Sheena, who also stands out as a singer-songwriter, Tokyo Jihen is a five-piece rock band composed of virtuoso musicians.

This song, included on the album “Shinya-waku,” which compiles their coupling tracks, was used in 2020—15 years after its release—as an inserted song in the TV drama “56th Year’s Heartbreak.” The lyrics evoke a sense of loss that inevitably links with a setting sun.

It’s a wistful number whose ensemble, featuring a beautifully melancholic piano sound, stirs the heart.

OrangeCreepHyp

“Orange” vividly portrays a man and woman who, despite caring deeply for each other, end up growing apart.

It’s included on the 2012 album “I Thought I’d Be Loved for the Rest of My Life.” The song begins with the chorus and gives off a very bright, catchy impression, but when you dig into the lyrics, you realize it’s anything but that kind of song.

It tells of the sacrifices made to preserve the happiness of ordinary days, and the outcome that befalls two people who chose to look the other way.

Once you know the story, hearing the chorus again brings a poignant, indefinable ache.

Perhaps the “orange light” was the sunset the two of them once watched together, dreaming of their future.
