French electro saw a surge in the mid-2010s, and at its center was Boys Noize.

What made him stand out in particular was his techno roots.

Hailing from Germany, he never forgot a techno-oriented approach even during the height of electro’s popularity, while still releasing catchy works that broadened the gateway to the underground scene.

GravitySpace 92

Based in Toulouse in the south of France, Space 92 has been igniting dance floors around the world.

Since around 2019, he has moved into full swing under his current moniker, gaining attention with peak-time techno that fuses the euphoria of trance with aggressive beats.

He frequently climbs high on the Beatport charts and has produced hits like “The Door.” In February 2025, he’s launching his own label, Take Off, signaling a notable move to take creative control.

His collaborations with the likes of HI-LO and Popof are prolific as well, making him a key figure driving the scene.

His sound combines the grandeur of a sci-fi film with relentless momentum, delivering deep immersion—highly recommended for anyone seeking energetic dance music.

Denki Groove – Niji [Live at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2006]

They’re already widely known, having appeared on TV and at major festivals like Fuji Rock, so they hardly need my recommendation.

But for anyone who “hasn’t discovered them yet,” they’re a must-listen: a leading Japanese techno unit with overwhelming popularity.

They resumed activity at the end of 2019, drawing renewed attention from fans.

Like Ken Ishii, they can be considered pioneers who paved the way for Japan’s techno scene!

Since 2015, he’s likely the most internationally active Japanese DJ.

He rose to fame with standout performances at the Dekmantel Festival and the original Boiler Room.

His techno—unexpected given his samurai-like, valiant presence—and his sage-like mixing, paired with a spacey selection, are incredibly striking.

As an aside, after one party, I saw him go around the floor greeting each person who had danced until morning; the way he did so left me with a strong impression of his humility and wonderful character.

Giorgia Angiuli live @ Es Vedrà in Ibiza for Cercle

While classically trained, Italy’s Giorgia Angiuli stands out in the techno scene.

Her appeal lies in a style rooted in melodic techno and house that also carries the songful sensibility of indie pop.

She launched her solo career in earnest in 2013, and her debut album “In A Pink Bubble,” released in 2018, is one of her signature works.

Her hallmark is a live performance in which she improvisationally mixes children’s toy instruments with her own voice.

Since 2013, she has been a resident at Florence’s renowned Tenax, and the skills she honed on the dance floor are nothing short of remarkable.

If you’re seeking dance music that’s organic and bursting with live energy—distinct from a conventional DJ set—you’ll surely be captivated.

Post PunkMha Iri

Dangerous Goods – Mha Iri | HÖR – June 20 / 2025

Māori is a techno DJ who grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland and built her career in earnest in Melbourne, Australia.

Her signature style fuses powerful peak-time beats with her own vocals, and she has been steadily releasing tracks on prestigious labels such as Drumcode.

The fact that she ranked in the top five of Beatport’s female techno artist sales in 2022 shows just how strongly she’s supported in the scene.

Her concept-driven approach to production is also compelling, as seen in projects like the Four Elements series themed around the classical elements.

With a U.S.

tour slated for early 2025 and an ever-expanding global presence, she’s an artist especially recommended for listeners who seek storytelling within intense sounds.
