Iconic and Popular Songs by THE YELLOW MONKEY (Iemon)

Here’s an introduction to songs by THE YELLOW MONKEY, the legendary band that created a huge buzz with their 2016 reunion announcement.

Their music is straightforward, cool rock that has captivated countless fans, with total CD sales surpassing 10 million copies.

Many fans must have rejoiced and felt their hearts race at the news of their reunion.

Interestingly, the band name THE YELLOW MONKEY is a term that Westerners have used derogatorily toward people from Eastern Europe, but the band chose it to express their commitment to making distinctly Japanese rock.

Now, in celebration of their return to activity, please enjoy this playlist of Yemon’s songs.

The Yellow Monkey’s classic and popular songs (21–30)

Primal.THE YELLOW MONKEY

This was the last song before The Yellow Monkey went on hiatus.

Although the tone feels bright, it sings of farewell and new beginnings.

It’s said to be the only song that wasn’t performed live during their pre-hiatus activities.

I’m waiting with anticipation, hoping we’ll finally get to hear it at a post-reunion concert.

It was a song performed at a live show held exclusively for the fan club.

Unfortunately, it has not been released.

Although it is currently hard to obtain, you can listen to it because it is included as bonus footage in the “Mekarauroko LIVE BOX DVD.”

RED LIGHTTHE YELLOW MONKEY

The “RED LIGHT” in the title refers to the red-light district.

It means an area where prostitutes used to work.

The first gentle female voice is Minako Ban’s, and when intertwined with Yoshii’s tender yet subtly suggestive voice, it adds even greater depth.

Trip to HeavenTHE YELLOW MONKEY

It wasn’t released as a single and only appears on the album, but it’s a fan favorite.

The live performance is breathtaking.

It opens with fierce guitars, yet the song carries a coexistence of calm and eeriness, as if your consciousness were sinking underwater.

WELCOME TO MY DOG HOUSETHE YELLOW MONKEY

Although it’s a song from their indie-era album, it remains very popular among fans and is frequently performed live.

At their last show before going on hiatus, they played this song after declaring, “We’re going back to being ordinary stray dogs!” to a thunderous ovation.

In the live shows, the wipe during the chorus is spectacular! Just listening to it makes my body sway.

The bicycle-pattern suit Yoshii Kazuya wears in the music video is such a mystery! It’s a popular song that he also performs at his solo concerts as Yoshii Kazuya.

The tone is a bit different from his earlier work, with a brighter feel.

Chelsea GirlTHE YELLOW MONKEY

This is a track from the first album, “THE NIGHT SNAILS AND PLASTIC BOOGIE / Night-Active Snails and Plastic Boogie.” The guitar solo in the middle has a shamisen-like style, giving it a classic old-school rock vibe.
