The song “Wakare no Machi,” sung by Masayuki Suzuki, is a sophisticated, urbane track whose saxophone tone further enhances its allure.

It’s a captivating number that exudes the charm of a refined adult when sung at karaoke.

Released in September 1989 as Suzuki’s seventh single, the song was written and composed by singer-songwriter Kazumasa Oda.

“Yuki Ressha” (“Snow Train”) is a warm song that wraps your whole body in a sense of bliss—the kind you feel in winter when you sip sake, nibble on oden, and sing just tipsy enough.

With lyrics by Shigesato Itoi, music by Ryuichi Sakamoto, and vocals by Kiyoshi Maekawa, it’s a soothing mood-kayō (Japanese popular ballad) karaoke track I especially recommend for people in their thirties who feel mentally and physically worn out.

Farewell, tearsKetsumeishi

This is the number-one song to cheer up your subordinates: if you invite a junior colleague who’s struggling or upset at work out for karaoke, have a drink together, and sing Ketsumeishi’s “Saraba Namida” for them, it will undoubtedly boost your credibility as a wonderfully caring and thoughtful boss.

Shadows of YouthZaitsu Kazuo

The Shadow of Youth (Tulip) Song: Kazuo Zaitsu

Written and composed by Kazuo Zaizu, “Seishun no Kage” was released in June 1974 as Tulip’s sixth single.

Even after roughly forty years, it remains a timeless proposal song dedicated to a beloved woman.

It’s a classic you’ll want to sing at karaoke when you want to confess your love or propose to your girlfriend.

If you still harbor a lingering regret in your heart about never telling the girl you liked back in your school days how you felt—wishing you had confessed back then—then, should you get the chance to go to karaoke at something like a class reunion after-party, I highly recommend singing Kozo Murashita’s “Hatsukoi” in front of her as a subtle message song to let her know you liked her.

Endless road19

19 (Juke) “Endless Road” (Live at Shibuya Public Hall, 2001.11.21)
Endless road19

The folk duo 19, who gained popularity with their orthodox musical style.

While they’re categorized as a folk duo, their sound is actually closer to rock, and they even have songs with a rough, rock-like arrangement.

Among them, the one I particularly recommend is Hatenonai Michi (Endless Road).

There’s a single high note near the end of the chorus, but it’s not so high that you need to use mixed voice; if you sing it in the right key, you should be able to handle it without trouble.

Definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.

Artificial flowers laughACIDMAN

ACIDMAN’s major-label debut song “Zōka ga Warau” (“Artificial Flowers Laugh”).

Released at the exceptional price of 300 yen, it became a nationwide hit thanks to its buzz and solid musicality.

If you’re a man who likes bands from the late 30s era, you’ve probably heard it at least once.

The singable point of this track is its simple vocal line that you can deliver roughly without any problem.

Because the chorus feels like it’s about to surge but never quite does, the overall range is surprisingly narrow.

There’s no vibrato or operatic-style shouts either, so simply singing with a rough, raspy tone like in the original will be more than enough to make it work.
