A great activity to blow away the chill is balloon volleyball.

Balloons are easy to find at 100-yen shops, so it’s a simple and recommended option.

Stand in a circle and keep the balloon in the air, rallying continuously so it doesn’t drop.

Because balloons are light and get caught by the slightest breeze, they often move unpredictably, so keeping the rally going is surprisingly challenging.

You can also make it a team competition and see who can get the most hits—it really livens things up.

Don’t forget to warm up first, as sudden movements can strain your Achilles tendon or ligaments.

Super Easy Homemade Toy: Indoor Fun with Fishing 🎣 [How to Make & Introduction]
fishing

Here’s a very fun fishing game you can make with a simple craft.

The fishing itself is fun, but it’s even more enjoyable when you start by crafting together with your child.

You can make it using construction paper from the 100-yen shop and empty containers you have at home, so let your imagination run wild and give it a try.

It’s a great way to learn about fish and sea creatures, and it uses both your hands and your mind—so let’s have fun making and playing!

Playing festival at home

When you think of big summer events, festivals come to mind, right? Seeing rows of stalls—goldfish scooping, lotteries, yakisoba, cotton candy, and more—can make even adults feel like kids again.

If you want your children to experience that feeling, try having a festival at home! Set up stalls and recreate the scene faithfully, and the kids are sure to love it.

Unlike a real festival, there’s no worry about getting separated, so you might actually be able to enjoy the festive mood more freely.

From the preparations onward, the whole family can have fun together!

Playing shop

Dagashi shops used to be like a dreamland for kids.

These days, it’s getting rare to see the old-fashioned kind.

If you want today’s children to experience some of that fun, a great idea is to play a “dagashi shop” pretend shopping game! All you need to prepare are some dagashi (cheap snacks), a toy cash register or a calculator, and, to set the mood, things like display shelves and price tags.

Then have the children take turns being customers and shopkeepers and do their shopping.

It’s a fun way to practice arithmetic and shopping skills!

Pretending to be at a night pool in the bath

The bath lights up! I tried putting in a ton of glowing scoop toys!

Night pools attached to hotels and the like.

When you’re traveling with the family, having a night pool really gets the kids excited, doesn’t it? Let’s recreate that night pool experience in your home bath! All you need are those glowing toys you often see at summer festivals, sometimes called “pika-pika scoops.” Float various shapes of light-up toys in the tub and play, and you can create a magical, night-pool-like atmosphere! It’s also great for an adult’s relaxation time.

Crafting with milk cartons

[Milk Cartons] 5 Craft Activities Kids Will Love! For Preschool and Kindergarten
Crafting with milk cartons

In households with children going through growth spurts, many probably make a point of drinking milk every day, right? And in those homes, you always end up with empty milk cartons.

You often hear that they’re good for recycling, but if you’re not quite sure how to put them to good use, we recommend crafts made with milk cartons! Just paint them to make them colorful and cut them into your favorite shapes, and they become great toys.

They’re perfect for at-home time and fun to enjoy from the making process onward!

Elephant and Spiderweb

The Sumire class (3-year-old preschoolers) is enjoying the group game “Elephant and Spider’s Web.” May 2016.

This recreation activity called “Elephant and Spiderweb” is recommended for young children.

It’s definitely more exciting when played in a group rather than with a small number of people.

How about using it as a game in kindergartens or nursery schools?
