REACHING FOR THE SKYMAN WITH A MISSION

REACHING FOR THE SKYMAN WITH A MISSION

MAN WITH A MISSION is a rock band that continues to attract fans with their sharp sound.

They’re a mid-career rock band, but since they’re still active on the front lines, many teenage boys are probably familiar with them.

Among their songs, the one I particularly recommend is REACHING FOR THE SKY.

Although it features an exhilarating melody, it surprisingly has a narrow vocal range; aside from the sustained long note at the end of the chorus, there aren’t even any mid-to-high notes.

The vocal line works fine even when sung roughly, making it a perfect pick for teenage boys whose voices may still be unstable.

Kai Takahashi’s solo project, LUCKY TAPES.

In the early days, their sound often mixed rock and J-pop, but recently the R&B side has grown stronger, and they’ve been releasing many stylish tracks.

Among them, the one I especially recommend is “Bouquet for Boring Days.” While it’s categorized as J-pop, it carries an R&B-like groove in places.

That said, the rhythm isn’t difficult, and it doesn’t feature the advanced vocal techniques common in R&B, such as melisma.

The vocal range is also very narrow, making it a song that should be easy for teenage male singers to perform.

The work “Hitorigoto,” a collaboration between popular singer-songwriter Motohiro Hata and Naoki Matayoshi, winner of the Akutagawa Prize.

In this piece, the lyrics are by Naoki Matayoshi and the melody is by Motohiro Hata, offering the appeal of delicately gentle melodies paired with profoundly literary expression rarely seen in mainstream Japanese pop.

Throughout, the vocal line is simply structured, with no abrupt jumps in pitch.

In addition, the overall range is on the narrower side, making it a very easy song to sing for teenage boys with lower voices.

Nulbarich is a band that has gained popularity for its stylish musicality.

The band name is pronounced “Narubaricchi” (Nulbarich).

Their signature sound incorporates elements of Black music such as neo-soul and R&B, and they consistently release sophisticated, slightly ennui-tinged tracks.

Among Nulbarich’s songs, a particularly recommended one is “Lights Out feat.

Jeremy Quartus.” It’s a neo-soul number with strong jazz and hip-hop flavors, sung within a narrow vocal range throughout.

Because the vocal line’s dynamics are very gentle, even teenage boys whose voices tend to be unstable should be able to sing it without trouble.

Zutomayo? Correction: The three-piece rock band ZOOKARADERU is currently drawing major attention in the Japanese rock scene.

While many Japanese rock bands are leaning toward K-pop-like styles, they remain committed to classic Japanese rock.

Their moving masterpiece here is Tomodachi no Uta (Song of Friends).

It features a slow tempo with lyrics and a vocal line that tug at the heart.

While the range isn’t exactly narrow, there’s no falsetto and no need to sustain long notes in the high register, making it a great recommendation for teenage males with lower voices.

Singer-songwriter Sora Tomonari, who has enjoyed outstanding popularity since his teens.

His hallmark is a relaxed, unforced vocal style, so I think many low-voiced teenage boys keep his songs in their repertoire.

His new release, “Bergamot,” is a very singable piece centered in the low-to-mid range.

There’s a falsetto part in the chorus, but the phrase is low enough to be sung comfortably in chest voice, so it shouldn’t pose a challenge.

It also goes over well at karaoke, so consider adding it to your repertoire.

purplejoōbachi

Queen Bee is a band beloved by younger generations for their melodies and lyrics brimming with originality.

The vocalist, Avu-chan, is known for a voice with a wide sanctuary and masterful use of falsetto.

Because of that, people with lower voices may feel hesitant.

That’s why I recommend the song “Murasaki.” Though it’s a lesser-known track, it’s sung in a low range throughout, and the vocal line doesn’t have complex pitch jumps, so even teenage boys with lower voices can sing it without trouble.

Consider adding it to your repertoire.
