Unicorn’s hit and popular songs

Let me introduce some songs by Unicorn, the popular rock band that formed in 1986, disbanded in 1993, and reunited in 2009 to resume activities.

They’re well known for having Tamio Okuda, who also has a solo career, on guitar and vocals.

Their catalog ranges from upbeat tracks like “Dai Meiwaku” to more laid-back songs such as “Subarashii Hibi.”

In their early days, their good looks earned them idol-like popularity, and it’s said they were the band most frequently featured in photo spreads in music magazines.

Their songs have a classic rock sound, making them essential listening for fans of rock bands.

Unicorn’s Classic and Popular Songs (21–30)

The Naked Sunyunikōn

An early signature song that Unicorn fans are especially attached to.

Their songs consistently feature gentle melodies that feel expansive and embracing.

That kind of rock presence is their greatest strength.

The fact that so few people dislike Unicorn is likely due to that very quality.

day gameyunikōn

For an early song, it’s a rare, simple, and emotionally resonant gem.

In this track, the entertainer Jiro Sakagami showcases his natural voice, giving it an intriguingly unique character.

The abundance of clever ideas is very much in Unicorn’s style.

It’s a song you should listen to at least once.

This song is also packed with a surprising amount of New Wave vibe.

You could say they were younger and it was a different era, but in fact, at a certain point Unicorn completely changed the band’s direction.

That paid off, making it possible for them to hold their rock-solid position today.

WAO!yunikōn

These people somehow remind me of XTC, the British rock band.

This band also has distinctive rhythms and melodies, and they’re firmly carving out their own place.

They may not become the number one band in the world, but I can definitely see them in the top three.

It’s Mr.

Okuda’s massively successful solo single, and I think this song is even better known than his work from the band era.

It’s a laid-back rock tune, far removed from the punkish sound of early Unicorn.

And perhaps that’s when he realized that this approach resonates more with people.

Marshmallowyunikōn

In this solo track by Okuda, the song takes a slightly different turn from his usual style and becomes a fun rock number.

It’s also very much in the Unicorn vein, so I imagine fans at the time were thrilled.

The lyrics are classic Okuda through and through, and I don’t think anyone else was singing about this kind of theme.

Half-Century Boyyunikōn

They also have a terrific knack for coming up with parody-style titles.

The track is an unusual dance number with some electronic elements.

To be honest, there are a few slightly shaky parts, but that spirit of adventure in creating songs that explore new territory is absolutely essential.
