[2026] Anti-war songs in Western music. Songs that wish for peace.

As of 2026, there is still no sign of a resolution to the situation in Ukraine, and since October 2023, armed clashes between Israel and Gaza have broken out, plunging the world into continued turmoil.

More recently, new fighting engulfing the entire Middle East has intensified, with the United States and Israel carrying out large-scale airstrikes on military and political targets inside Iran.

In this article, we’ve compiled a selection of overseas anti-war songs that will move listeners emotionally—precisely the kind of music we want you to hear in times like these—spanning different eras and genres.

Please listen while checking the parallel translations and such—the messages each artist has imbued in their work, from heartfelt wishes for peace to, at times, stern denunciations of those in power.

Bruce Springsteen, a singer-songwriter from New Jersey.

He’s a singer-songwriter known for genres like pop rock and alternative folk, and in his later years he has earned acclaim for acoustic songs.

Among his many classics, the especially famous anti-war piece is “Devils & Dust.” It portrays, in a narrative style, an American soldier deployed to Iraq, and its meticulous craftsmanship powerfully conveys the reality of war.

Megadeth’s classic “Peace Sells” is a powerful anti-war and politically conscious work featured on the 1986 album Peace Sells…

but Who’s Buying?.

Dave Mustaine’s sharp social commentary explodes over razor-edged guitar riffs, profoundly stirring listeners.

Especially amid today’s unstable international climate, the song’s message has lost none of its relevance.

Beyond its provocative lyrics, its highly refined thrash metal sound has also earned wide acclaim.

As a voice calling for peace and understanding, it’s a track that deserves to be heard now more than ever.

Saigon BrideJoan Baez

Joan Baez’s moving classic “Saigon Bride” is an anti-war cry filled with the anxieties and anguish of 1967.

Its melody and lyrics shake the listener’s heart, resonating with the countless lives lost to war and the aching sense of a future happiness slipping away.

Baez, a leading American folk singer, spoke out with unwavering opposition to the Vietnam War, urging listeners to recognize the importance of peace.

Her gift for delivering political messages through music resonates all the more powerfully today.

This song—feared even by governments—continues to convey a longing for peace to many listeners.

Please, let this song help you feel that shared wish for peace.

What Are You Fighting ForPHIL OCHS

The legendary folk singer Phil Ochs.

He was a folk singer who was very active in the 1960s and, much like Shogo Hamada in Japan, created many works with anti-war themes.

Among Phil Ochs’s songs, the one I especially recommend is What Are You Fighting For.

As the title suggests, the lyrics ask why we must take each other’s lives—what it is we are fighting for.
