If I Had No LootTony Toni Tone

It reached No.

7 in the U.S.

in 1993.

It opens their third album, Sons of Soul.

True to their claimed influences—Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and Sly Stone—the band delivers a funky yet melodically deep sound.

It’s a classic of ’90s soul, R&B, and (perhaps) funk.

I believe the role they played in the ’90s was extremely significant.

By the way, none of the members are actually named Tony.

No Sleep Till BrooklynBeastie Boys

Beastie Boys – No Sleep Till Brooklyn
No Sleep Till BrooklynBeastie Boys

A legendary unit that evolved from a punk band and became a pioneer of white hip-hop.

Rather than a funk-leaning rap style, their “rap rock,” characterized by punkish beats and a hard rock vibe, exerted an enormous influence across a wide range of genres.

A Chinese punk band formed in Beijing in 1997.

Their leader and vocalist, Xiaolong, is a charismatic punk hero.

Their talent is highly regarded in Europe, the U.S., and Japan, and they frequently collaborate with overseas musicians, performing actively on a worldwide scale.

DreamsFleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac – Dreams [with lyrics]
DreamsFleetwood Mac

It hit No.

1 in the U.S.

in 1978.

The album Rumours is remembered as a phenomenal masterpiece, spending 31 weeks at No.

1 in the U.S.

(and topping the 1977 year-end chart).

This song was written by Stevie Nicks, who also sings lead.

Surprisingly, it’s their only No.

1.

Fleetwood Mac originally started as a blues band, but with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joining, they underwent a dramatic transformation.

Even so, they didn’t limit themselves to songs like this; they continued to do rock-and-roll–style tracks like “Don’t Stop,” showing a breadth and variety that speaks to the band’s depth.

Golden SkansKlaxons

Klaxons, the charismatic band that opened up the scene as the spark of the nu-rave boom, were a British rock band whose style—bringing danceable sounds into rock—drew major attention at the time.

Their singer’s falsetto was distinctive, and their debut album, Myths of the Near Future, became a global hit.

Among their work, this track is truly one of their all-time classics—one you still find yourself wanting to revisit now and then.

It’s not about flawless vocals or virtuosic playing; instead, it’s that uniquely British rock “coolly aloof” vibe that’s irresistible.
