Cool and highly acclaimed Western music classics and popular songs (141–150)
DiscreciónGirl Ultra

Girl Ultra is a Mexico-born artist known for her smooth R&B.
Interestingly, she was actually a member of a disco band during her school days.
Hard to imagine given her current smooth R&B sound, right? Perhaps because of that background, she says she draws strong inspiration from songs of the ’80s.
It’s true—the melodies don’t really feel like ’90s R&B.
Latin R&B is famous for its exceptionally high quality.
If you’ve mostly listened to English-language R&B until now, definitely give her a listen!
The Other Side of ParadiseGlass Animals

From Glass Animals’ second album comes a fan-favorite track by the promising band whose debut album has been streamed over 200 million times worldwide.
Their uniquely airy sound—blending electro, R&B, and dubstep—is truly addictive.
I Just Wanna LiveGood Charlotte

It’s a feel-good dance rock number by the punk rock band Good Charlotte, incorporating dance rhythms.
In the music video, the members wear costumes and such, which makes it kind of cute and quite an amusing production—highly recommended.

Just the Two of UsGrover Washington Jr.

“Just the Two of Us” delivers a high-quality, cool sound that perfectly enhances the mood when you play it while gazing into each other’s eyes and talking romantically with your partner against a backdrop of a starry night sky over city skyscrapers.
It’s Grover Washington Jr.’s biggest hit, included on his 1980 album Winelight.
NightmareHalsey

This is a song by the American singer-songwriter Halsey, who has been gaining popularity especially among younger generations.
It was released in May 2019.
Her popularity is solid here in Japan as well, with “Without Me” being a long-running hit.
The energetic vocals and sound feel soul-stirring.
The lyrics, which convey the strength and resilience of women, are particularly striking.
Boom ChildHiatus Kaiyote

When asked which neo-soul band was most active in the 2010s, many would probably name Hiatus Kaiyote.
They’re a band whose music is striking for combining stylishness with cool melodies that evoke neo-soul pioneer D’Angelo.
Their track “Boom Child” is a classic released in 2012.
This time, I’ve chosen the live version recorded for Fuse TV’s “Live Alive.”
Crawling In The DarkHoobastank

It’s one of the signature songs by the heavy rock band Hoobastank.
It features complex, striking guitar work, with a throbbing low-end in the background that gives it a wild, cool vibe.
Just like the imagery in the music video, it’s the kind of track that makes you want to start moshing.
