Karaoke songs in Western music that are easy to sing even for people who are tone-deaf
A roundup of easy-to-sing Western karaoke songs even for the tone-deaf!
I know many people feel intimidated by Western music.
In Japanese pop, techniques like vocal runs or shouts aren’t used very often.
Especially vocal runs—similar to what we call “kobushi” in Japan—aren’t typically attempted.
Because we grow up with that kind of musical culture, many Japanese people end up lacking a strong sense of rhythm or melodic phrasing.
This time, I’ve picked out songs that even those with a very “purely Japanese” musical sensibility can sing and still sound cool!
Of course, I’ll also highlight specific tips for each song!
We’ll cover some technical points too, so if you want to get better at singing, don’t miss this!

Karaoke Songs in Western Music That Are Easy to Sing Even for the Tone-Deaf (1–10)
we can’t be friends (wait for your love)Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande, a female singer who is extremely popular in Japan.
Her distinctly feminine high-tone voice and looks are part of her appeal, and she has dropped numerous hit tunes using them as her weapons.
Among her songs, the one I particularly recommend is “we can’t be friends (wait for your love).” As this work is primarily synth-pop, the vocal lines are simple throughout.
While techniques like slight ad-libs and falls appear, the pitch movement is gentle, so for a recent track, it can be considered relatively easy to sing.
DiseaseLady Gaga

Lady Gaga, the modern pop queen.
Her activity had been relatively low-key since the mid-2010s, but since 2020 she has once again drawn global attention, so even younger listeners have likely heard her songs at least once.
Among her tracks, the one I especially recommend is “Disease.” While it falls under pop as a genre, its vocal lines evoke a touch of gothic rock.
There are no falsetto sections or tricky runs in this piece, making it a beginner-friendly song where you can focus solely on staying on pitch.
APT.ROSÉ & Bruno Mars

Rosé, a member of the globally popular K-pop idol group BLACKPINK, has been gaining worldwide hits with her solo work recently.
Her collaboration with Bruno Mars, a singer-songwriter who has remained at the forefront of the global music scene for many years, is the track “APT.” Since the song is derived from a traditional Korean singing game, it features an easy-to-sing vocal line throughout.
There aren’t many ad-libs or falls either, so give it a try.

BIRDS OF A FEATHERBillie Eilish

Since the mega-hit release of “bad guy” in 2019, American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish has continuously dropped hit tunes.
I believe she has a huge fan base in Japan as well.
Among her songs, one I especially recommend is “BIRDS OF A FEATHER.” This track features an indie-pop-like production and maintains a gentle vocal line throughout.
Although it opens in a high key, the overall vocal range is narrow, making it a song that even those who aren’t confident singers can comfortably try.
Diet PepsiAddison Rae

Addison Rae is a female singer-songwriter who gained worldwide popularity through TikTok.
Among young people overseas, she’s an extremely popular artist—so if you’re someone who keeps up with the latest trends, you probably know her.
Of all her songs, the one I especially recommend is Diet Pepsi.
The chorus is in falsetto, so it might feel challenging, but the melody itself is simple, and there’s almost no use of advanced techniques like vocal riffs.
As long as you can produce a delicate falsetto, anyone can sing it—so give it a try.
That’s So TrueGracie Abrams

Recently, Gracie Abrams, a female singer-songwriter drawing attention from young people around the world, has been in the spotlight.
She is the daughter of world-renowned film director and screenwriter J.J.
Abrams, and her popularity has surged since the 2020s.
Her song “That’s So True” is one I particularly recommend.
In the chorus, there’s a part that may sound like a vocal riff, but it isn’t; it’s simply quick, small steps up and down the scale.
That makes it easier to sing even for Japanese listeners who aren’t comfortable with runs.
The vocal range is also relatively narrow, so definitely give it a listen.
Hey JudeThe Beatles

“Hey Jude” is the Beatles’ 18th single, released in August 1968.
It was included on the American Apple Records compilation album Hey Jude, released in February 1970; that album was also issued in the UK in 1979.
This is a classic rock standard that hardly needs me to explain it here.
You’ve probably heard the melody before.
With its very approachable tune, it’s a song that almost anyone can take on pretty easily.
In particular, if you’re about to start working and might find yourself going to karaoke more often with older colleagues, memorizing this song could come in handy in all sorts of ways.
