“No Love,” a collaboration between globally popular female rapper Cardi B and R&B singers Summer Walker and SZA.

The track is a laid-back piece of trap music, wrapped in an overall wet, moody atmosphere.

Layered over it are SZA’s and Summer Walker’s sultry vocals, making the song essentially a slow jam.

Cardi B’s smooth, subdued rap is relatively rare for her, which makes this aspect of the track especially noteworthy.

Often dubbed “nu-metalcore,” the fusion of modern metalcore with the late-’90s to early-’00s nu-metal sound has already become fairly established.

If that hybrid sound interests you, you should definitely check out TETRARCH, a four-piece band from Atlanta, Georgia.

Although they started in 2007 and thus have a surprisingly long career, they truly made their global debut with their second album, Unstable, released in 2021 on the renowned Napalm Records.

The track Negative Noise from the album features many elements that evoke “that era”: KORN-esque off-kilter guitar phrases, Slipknot-like aggression, digitally processed production bolstered by programming, and distinctive, idiosyncratic vocals.

At the same time, their tasteful approach keeps it from descending into mere nostalgia.

Notably, the band includes a Black female guitarist—quite rare in this scene—whose inventive playing forms the core of the band’s individuality.
