Recommendation of Western Rap: Introducing Legendary Classics (11–20)

Hotline BlingDrake

Drake is a rapper who has remained at the forefront of the hip-hop scene for many years.

Many rappers who were active in the 2000s faded from the spotlight once trap music became the dominant force, but Drake adapted to trap and continues to thrive with his distinctive melodic flow.

One of his signature songs is “Hotline Bling,” a stylish track that blends R&B and hip-hop.

Thugz CryBizzy Bone

Busy Bone, a rapper who played a huge role as a member of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.

As a child, he was abducted and grew up believing the kidnapper was his real parent.

Words from Busy Bone, who carries such a harrowing past, have undeniable weight.

But that’s not all—he’s also one of the most skilled rappers in the world.

The track “Thugz Cry” is a classic where you can experience both his way of life and his skillful flow.

Nas, a New York–born rapper known for his wide musical range, has garnered broad popularity.

For a long time, there was a prevailing notion that West Coast hip-hop was superior to its East Coast counterpart.

Nas is known as one of the artists who put an end to that culture, earning acclaim across many works—from gangsta rap to conscious rap that criticizes political and economic systems.

As the title suggests, “Nas Is Like” is considered a culmination of his artistry.

It’s also a track frequently used in Japan’s MC battle scene, so many of you may find it familiar.

Tech N9ne is a rapper known for his overwhelming skills.

While he’s a famous rapper, I think he’s still relatively minor in Japan.

His appeal, above all, lies in his skill.

His rapid-fire fastest rap is among the best in the world, and there are no gaps in his rhymes or flow.

In “Face Off (feat.

Joey Cool, King Iso & Dwayne Johnson),” which features many rappers, his skills stand out even more.

For those who aren’t very familiar with hip-hop, when you think of a Western rapper, you might picture Jay-Z, who performs “Ni**as In Paris.” He’s the highest-earning rapper in the world and has also succeeded as an entrepreneur.

His raps let you feel that overwhelming sense of success and composure.

Another part of his appeal is his choice of beats.

Since he’s active as a producer as well, it’s no surprise his sensibilities there are outstanding.
