Hello Mr. MonkeyArabesque

Arabesque – Hello Mr. Monkey (German Popshowreihe POP, 16.10.1977)
Hello Mr. MonkeyArabesque

A song released in 1978 by the West German disco group Arabesque.

It was a major hit in Japan, topping the Oricon Western music singles chart for three consecutive weeks.

Although it did not achieve significant sales in its home country of West Germany, it became part of Japan’s disco boom, supported in part by the Takenoko-zoku subculture that was popular in the 1980s.

Hooked on a FeelingBlue Swede

This is a cover of “Hooked on a Feeling,” originally released in 1969 by American pop singer B.

J.

Thomas, performed by the Swedish rock band Blue Swede.

It starts with the distinctive “Ooga-Chaka” chant and has a curious vibe, but it’s arranged in a really cool way.

It didn’t just stay in their home country of Sweden—it also reached number one on the U.S.

charts.

Kung Fu FightingCarl Douglas

In the 1970s, the disco boom and the kung fu boom erupted almost simultaneously across the United States, and blending those two together produced the massive hit “Kung Fu Fighting.” Ever since this song, kung fu has become an important spice in Black music, and many hip-hop groups have released tracks influenced by kung fu.

Me and Bobby McGeeJanis Joplin

A song released in 1971 after the death of American rock singer Janis Joplin.

It was also included on the album Pearl, released the same year.

It topped the U.S.

charts for two consecutive weeks.

Janis Joplin’s overwhelming, soul-baring vocals are truly legendary.

The StrangerBilly Joel

He scored a string of hits from the late 1970s to the early 1990s.

This is one of his signature songs.

Everyone was captivated by the piano and whistling in the track.

The self-titled album released in 1977 is also famous for becoming a worldwide sensation.

In Japan, it was used in a Sony commercial and became hugely popular.

If you haven’t heard this album, I highly recommend giving it a listen.

I’ve Got You On My MindWhite Plains

WHITE PLAINS – I’VE GOT YOU ON MY MIND
I've Got You On My MindWhite Plains

This is a pop number that straightforwardly captures the heart-fluttering excitement of falling in love.

It was crafted by White Plains, the British group that brightened the early ’70s music scene with the breezy charm of bubblegum pop.

Those pure feelings of having that special someone constantly on your mind come through beautifully in Pete Nelson’s sweet vocals and the shimmering choral arrangements.

Released as a single in April 1970, the song reached No.

17 on the UK charts and was also included on that year’s album White Plains.

Put it on when you want to feel buoyant—your mood is sure to soar.

It’s a wonderful soft rock number that makes you happy just by listening.

It’s a must-mention track when talking about the disco music boom of the ’70s.

It hit number one on the U.S.

charts in 1975.

The song is also very popular in Japan, and Yuzo Gucci often performs it.

Beyond the melody and groove, the brass arrangement is outstanding—it makes you want to start dancing as soon as you hear it.
