A collection of Western songs with titles starting with “X”

In this article, I’ll be introducing a bunch of Western songs with titles that start with “X.” It’s not every day that we listen to playlists built around a single initial, but that’s exactly why you might stumble upon songs you’ve never known before and make some new discoveries.

There aren’t actually that many English words that begin with “X.” However, when it comes to song titles, there are quite a lot.

I’ve picked tracks regardless of era or genre, so enjoy seeing what’s out there!

Rina Sawayama, an artist from Niigata Prefecture.

She may be unfamiliar to many due to her relatively low profile in Japan, but she’s the only Japanese artist who’s truly making waves in the UK.

Her track “XS,” released in April 2020, carries a political message, satirizing the absurdity of capitalism.

The melody evokes the U.S.

pop scene of the 2000s.

While the lyrics are somewhat complex, the tune itself is clean and refreshing, making it a perfect fit for spring.

xoxoxoSecret And Whisper

Secret and Whisper is a Canadian band known for a sound where passion and lyricism intersect.

In 2007, members of their previous band took a new step by bringing in Charles Furney as the vocalist.

Their music is rooted in post-hardcore, skillfully incorporating elements of emo and experimental alternative rock.

Their debut album, Great White Whale, released in February 2008, became a talking point in the music scene at the time, and the track XOXOXO drew attention by entering the iTunes charts within the top 100 in its first week.

Although they haven’t received major awards, Charles’s emotionally rich high-register vocals contrasted with the band’s heavy sound, along with their narrative-driven lyrics, earned high praise from specialized media, who called it a “powerful debut.” After a period of inactivity, they are set to return with a festival performance in April 2025.

This is a band you’ll want to hear if you’re seeking music with a unique world-building approach, where delicate emotional expression is woven together with an overwhelming sonic presence.

XtalAphex Twin

Aphex Twin is the stage name used by British musician Richard D.

While many people might associate him with intense tracks like drum’n’bass, in the early 1990s he was producing ambient techno.

The track I’m introducing here, “Xtal,” was released in 1992 and is notable for its airy, floating sound.

If you want to delve deeper into Aphex Twin’s ambient world, be sure to check out the album Selected Ambient Works 85–92, which includes this track, as well as 1994’s Selected Ambient Works Volume II.

Beyoncé is a singer who gained worldwide popularity with her powerful vocals, and she’s extremely popular in Japan as well.

Her song “XO,” released in 2013, was a hit in the United States.

While it’s a song about mutual love, Beyoncé has said she created it for those who have lost a loved one, and reading the lyrics, that interpretation certainly makes sense.

Musically, it’s power pop with heavy use of synthesizers.

Be sure to check it out.
