[Childcare] For 5-year-olds! Autumn craft ideas [Part 2]
Autumn is full of fun events for children, like Halloween, sports festivals, and field trips.
In this article, we’ll introduce craft ideas that are perfect for the fall season.
Because the weather is pleasant in autumn, there are more chances to go for walks and collect acorns and fallen leaves.
We’re sharing lots of craft ideas that use these wonderful gifts from nature, as well as ideas you can use for events—so be sure to give them a try!
Because the children’s pieces are treated as works of art, we use the term “制作 (seisaku)” in the text to mean “creation/work.”

[Childcare] For 5-year-olds! Autumn Craft Ideas [Part 2] (11–20)
Bright-red persimmon

It’s an idea for making a three-dimensional persimmon.
Accordion-fold the origami paper and fold it in half, then glue the folded edges together.
Make two of these, attach their ends to each other to form a circle.
Make three circles in total.
Thread and secure some twine through one of the three.
Use double-sided tape to attach the remaining two to the back of the piece with the twine.
Finally, thread a leaf piece onto the twine to finish.
If you use red origami paper, you can make an apple as well, so try making them together for an autumn wall display.
The Flying Witch of Halloween

Perfect for October: here are some ideas for making a “Flying Witch for Halloween.” First, draw a circle with a white crayon on the construction paper that will be your background, then fill it in with yellow.
Once it’s filled, blend it with a tissue to create a soft effect—your moon is complete.
Add some stars around it as well.
Next, use origami paper to make a ghost and a witch, and draw their faces.
Finally, assemble the broom parts you prepared in advance and stick them onto the background along with the witch and the ghost—that’s it! The broom has twine threaded through it so the witch can move from side to side.
Torn-paper collage sweet potato
These torn-paper roasted sweet potatoes are perfect for an end-of-autumn craft.
Use red, purple, and brown construction paper or origami paper, tear it by hand, and glue the pieces onto a sweet-potato-shaped base.
If you crumple and soften the paper before tearing, it becomes easier for children to rip—give it a try! For added dimension, you can also shape a sweet potato out of newspaper and then cover it with colored paper.
This craft idea brings out children’s expressive creativity and is sure to make autumn events even more enjoyable.
Grape hanging ornament

Let’s make a hanging grape decoration to celebrate autumn using ring chains.
Prepare the origami paper by cutting it into long, thin strips ahead of time.
For five-year-olds, give them origami with guide lines drawn so they can cut it themselves.
From the left, connect three columns of rings so they form 4, 6, and 4 rings vertically.
Then, thread another strip of origami through the top ring of each column to gather them into a single bunch of grapes.
Make several grape bunches, string them onto a cord, and your hanging grape decoration is complete.
Adding leaves will make them look even more like grapes.
persimmon

There are lots of delicious fruits that are in season in autumn.
Persimmons, with their beautiful orange color, are one of the season’s signature fruits—let’s make a persimmon using orange origami paper.
First, fold the origami paper in half, then in half again.
In the resulting quarter section, paste a piece of green origami paper cut to the same size.
As you continue folding, that green area will become the leaves on the persimmon’s calyx.
Finally, glue down the folded leaf part, and you’re done.
It would be fun for everyone to make them together and create a persimmon tree as a wall decoration.
In conclusion
We introduced some autumn craft ideas for five-year-olds.
You probably noticed lots of things associated with fall.
It’s fun to make imitations of items like fallen leaves and acorns, and it’s also enjoyable to create using real materials.
Deepen your experience of autumn through these crafts!
