[Origami] Butterfly - Easy, Cute, Spring
A butterfly with antennae

A butterfly with antennae made from round-cut origami or colored paper.

Prepare two sizes of circles, large and small, and make two parts by sticking a small circle in the center of a large one.

Since the circle parts will form the butterfly’s pattern, it’s a good idea to combine colors and designs while imagining the finished look.

Accordion-fold each part and then fold it in half; glue them to form fan shapes.

Next, make the antennae from strips of origami about 3 mm wide.

Finally, sandwich the antennae between the two parts you made and glue them together.

Your vibrant butterfly is complete!

Butterflies made from cut origami

This butterfly starts from a rectangle made by dividing a square sheet of origami paper into four vertical strips and cutting off one strip.

Place the paper vertically, fold the top edge down to meet the bottom edge, then fold it in half vertically.

Open the pocket-like sections on both sides and squash-fold them into roof-shaped triangles.

Fold the bottom center corner up to meet the color change line, then open it back out.

Open the left and right sides and tuck the previously made crease lines inward.

Fold the bottom section upward, flip the model over top to bottom, and you’ll have a butterfly shape! Finally, fold the tips of the upper wings backward to round them, and your cute, picture-perfect butterfly is complete.

In conclusion

If you create silhouettes inspired by wings and antennae, you can express butterflies nicely.

We’ve shared origami ideas for three-year-olds, but it’s also great to work on them together with parents or teachers.

The key is to assist with parts that require scissors or fine motor skills.

You can decorate the wall with the finished butterflies, or display the children’s pieces together to create an art installation.
