If you want to make an irresistibly cute acorn, here’s one you can create with just a single sheet of origami paper! Its round, plump shape doubles the cuteness.

You’ll have fun making it on your own or together with family and friends.

The steps are simple, so once you fold one, you might find yourself eager to make another! You can also use double-sided colored origami paper or draw a face to give it expressions for even more fun.

If you’ve got some extra time at home this fall, be sure to give it a try!

Acorn-chan

Let’s add a little twist to acorn origami, which is great for small children, and make a cute little acorn character! After folding the acorn out of origami paper, attach round stickers for eyes and draw a mouth.

You can let your child place the stickers freely and draw the expression, too.

Next, glue a chopstick to the back of the acorn along with pipe cleaners as the arms and legs, and your acorn character is complete! It’s easy to make and can be used like a paper puppet, so kids are sure to love it.

Acorn Frame

This acorn frame is perfect for autumn crafts! The frame is also practical, making it a great gift for friends and family on birthdays or Respect for the Aged Day.

You’ll use two sheets of origami paper—one patterned and one plain—glued together.

Fold the frame parts so the patterned paper ends up on the inside, make four of these pieces, and assemble them at the end.

It takes a bit of effort, but the nice thing is you don’t need any difficult techniques! The inside of the frame looks fine as is, or you could add another layer of patterned origami paper for an even lovelier finish.

Acorns made with patterned origami paper

If you want to make an acorn out of origami but feel like plain brown is a bit dull, why not try using patterned paper? With fun designs like gingham checks or polka dots, you can create super-cute acorns! Imagine the patterned part as the cap.

You can make two types—round and elongated—but neither involves any difficult steps, so even a child can enjoy making them on their own.

Fold them with your favorite patterns and give them as gifts to friends and family!

3D acorn

If you think 3D acorn origami looks difficult, you’re exactly the person I want to encourage to give it a try! The nut portion of this model is similar to the crane’s folding sequence up to a point, so if you’ve made a crane before, you’ll likely find it easy.

The key step is the final 3D assembly with glue.

The cap is made separately from another sheet of origami paper and is also formed in 3D.

Once you place the cap over the nut at the end, it’s complete.

If starting with smaller origami paper feels challenging, try using a standard-sized sheet first.

When it comes to autumn, many children probably look forward to collecting acorns.

Seeing acorns on the roadside really gives you a sense of the season, doesn’t it? This time, why not make a hand-holding acorn parent and child using origami paper, scissors, and a pen? Choose any colors you like for the origami paper.

It could be fun to make the pieces in different colors for a colorful finish.

Adding unique expressions to the acorns would make it even more enjoyable!
