Group Interview: Tyrannosaurus Edition

Jurassic Park is hugely popular in movies, film-music concerts, and even at USJ.

Carnivorous dinosaurs are scary to see up close, but everyone loves them, right? So let’s try doing an impression of the king of the dinosaurs, the Tyrannosaurus! The legend of the impersonation world, Korokke, does a T.

rex impression, so let’s use that as our model and get started! The trick is to keep your elbows tucked in, make your arms short, and look around a lot.

It can be a bit embarrassing to fully become a dinosaur, but don’t be shy—show it off!

The key is how you move your tongue, and you might need a bit of practice to make it sound realistic.

Baby sloth! – Baby Sloth Sanctuary

Their movements are so slow that they’ve ended up with an utterly straightforward name: the sloth.

They look adorable hanging from trees.

Mimicking a sloth as it gazes off in some odd direction while stuffing food into its cheeks seems like something you could re-create pretty easily.

Luhan Duck Imitation

The person who’s been doing a duck impression for a long time is the manzai comedian Okakenta from the duo Okakenta Yuta.

The “brrrr” where he pinches his cheeks and makes his lips vibrate is truly a masterful skill.

If you just want to imitate a duck, copying Okakenta is the quickest route! For other duck voices, there’s Donald Duck—Koichi Yamadera does the Japanese dub in the anime version.

There are plenty of videos, so it’s easy to practice.

As a curveball, imitating the Aflac duck would probably get laughs too!

If you listen closely, you’ll notice that an adult goat’s bleat is not “mee” but “beh.” They say more people in the U.S.

are keeping goats as pets.

Goat bleats vary widely—from high-pitched to low—so there’s no single “correct” way to imitate them.

Takushi Tanaka’s same-day promo PR “Fight Crab”

I don’t really understand what’s going on anymore, but Tanaka from Ungirls doing his crab impression just makes me burst out laughing.

He even said on a TV show that if fans ask him, he’ll sometimes do it out on the street, so I guess it’s become one of his signature gags.

Mimic a scene of a Japanese spider crab quietly munching on its food, and, just like Tanaka, become the crowd favorite! It’s especially effective if a slim person does it, since it makes people think of a crab’s arms and legs.

Go big, and make choppy, jerky movements—that’s the trick!

In Japan, long before alarm clocks existed, the familiar “cock-a-doodle-doo” of the rooster was treasured as a morning wake-up call.

Listening to it again, it feels more like a shout than a chirp, and if you’re aiming for realism, it might take quite a bit of practice.

Give it a solid try!

Try mimicking, in your own way, the lumbering movements and the scene of hunting salmon in a river! Since bears don’t have a set catchphrase like a horse’s “neigh,” it’s pretty hard to do a realistic bear impression…

So how about going with the first bear character that comes to mind—Winnie the Pooh! He’s got that go-to line, “I do love honey,” so it should be easy to give it a try.

The trick is to mumble it a bit, as if you’re a little sleepy.

Speaking of cow impressions, the impression of Eiko Segawa performed by the impressionist Korokke is famous, isn’t it? The bit is that while he’s doing Segawa’s voice, it morphs directly into a cow’s moo.

Now that you mention it, Segawa’s relaxed way of speaking does have something in common with the laid-back vibe of a cow, doesn’t it? And if you switch to a different impression, you can even hear the age difference between a calf and a mother cow: the calf’s “moo” sounds a bit fresher.

Doing a mother-and-calf call-and-response cow impression might be funny too—almost like a manzai routine!

When it comes to classic animal impressions, pigs are the ultimate standard.

Is there anyone who’s never tried a pig impression? It’s that common.

But a simple pig imitation only lasts 2 or 3 seconds, so how about imitating a pig character instead? Hamm from Toy Story, Buriburizaemon from Crayon Shin-chan, Porco Rosso from Porco Rosso, Hawk from The Seven Deadly Sins, and so on—pig characters all have strong, unique personalities! Give it a try!
