Animal sounds. Sound effects and natural ambience

From the cries of newborn kittens to the roars of ferocious beasts, we’ve gathered a variety of animal sounds.

A soothing playlist that animals can’t resist.

Animal cries. Sound effects and natural ambient sounds (11–20)

The cry of a fox

Fox say! Fox cry (at the Fox Village)
The cry of a fox

A lot of people probably don’t actually know what a fox sounds like, do they!? In old folktales, foxes are often said to go “kon kon,” but in reality their calls are closer to those of a puppy.

I wonder where the image of that “kon kon” sound came from…

Giraffe’s call

Noichi Zoological Park: Giraffe Vocalizations
Giraffe's call

Giraffes are known as animals that rarely vocalize.

Their calls are so uncommon that when a zoo manages to record one, it can even make local news.

Since giraffes are closely related to cattle, they actually make a “moo” sound! Even zookeepers seldom hear it.

If you’re lucky enough to catch it, consider yourself fortunate!

Bear sounds

This is a bear sound effect distributed as the official app of a zoo.

Although it’s a video work, both the footage and the bear calls are recorded very clearly, making it very easy to watch.

A music box-like BGM is occasionally inserted, making it a good work for children as well.

The cry of a rhinoceros

You might not think of rhinos as vocal animals, but it turns out they actually make sounds quite often.

During the mating season, they can reportedly call all day long, making low “boo… boo…” sounds.

Next time you see a rhino at the zoo, try watching closely to see if it’s making any calls.

Elephant sound

An elephant’s call is well known as the onomatopoeia “paooon,” but when you actually listen, it sounds more like a lower-pitched “whoooom!” The calls of large animals are really impressive.

In fact, elephants are said to be so strong that even lions won’t mess with them.

Cheetah sounds

Cheetahs are members of the cat family, but instead of a “meow,” they make a high-pitched sound more like a “kyah.” However, when they’re threatening an opponent, they also produce a growling “grrrr,” similar to a dog.

When a cheetah is making threat sounds, its expression befits the fastest animal on the savanna!

Chicken’s crowing

Chicken's crowing

The crowing of roosters is loved around the world as a sound that announces the arrival of morning.

To Japanese ears it sounds like “kokekokko,” but in America they say “cock-a-doodle-doo!” I wonder if there’s an English language in the world of chickens, too?
