It was used as the first opening theme for the hugely popular anime Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story—known to fans as “Ruroken” and later adapted into live-action films—so many listeners at the time must have been struck by its impact.
There’s an anecdote that, at the producer’s direction, the song was deliberately crafted to have nothing to do with the anime’s content; yet it has become the very track most people instantly associate with Ruroken, which only underscores the song’s undeniable power.
