[For 2-year-olds] Feel the warm spring! Fun April craft ideas collection
The new school year is an exciting season for both adults and children.
Our hearts are full of anticipation about the fun that awaits with the teachers and friends we’ll be spending time with.
For April, why not choose creative ideas featuring bright, spring-like motifs?
This time, we’ve gathered ideas that are easy for 2-year-olds to try, as well as projects that use recycled materials and various textures.
We hope children can build many joyful experiences while we stay close to their needs.
If you’re unsure about what to make, please use these ideas as a reference.
Because the children’s creations are treated as works of art, we refer to them as “seisaku” (productions/creations) in the text.
[For 2-year-olds] Feel the Warmth of Spring! A Fun Collection of April Craft Ideas (1–10)
Make a little snake and go for a spring walk

Here’s a craft to make spring walks even more fun: a wiggly snake! Prepare construction paper, twine, scissors, crayons, glue, and stickers.
Draw on the construction paper with crayons, then add stickers or pieces of cut origami paper.
Using scissors, cut the paper into a spiral snake shape.
If you draw guide marks where you’ll cut, it will be easier.
Attach the twine to the head, and you’re done.
Take your freely wiggling snake for a walk—up, down, left, and right—and have fun!
Cherry blossom tree made with plastic bags
https://www.tiktok.com/@lion.sensei_hoiku/video/7348581263697087752Blow into it and make it! Let me show you how to create a cherry blossom tree using a plastic bag.
You’ll need construction paper, a plastic bag, paint, a cherry tree shape made from construction paper, and glue or double-sided tape.
First, tie the bottom of the plastic bag tightly, turn it inside out, then blow into it and tie it off.
Dab paint onto the plastic bag, which will be puffed up like a balloon, and stamp it onto the paper to make big cherry blossom petals! Attach the cherry tree cutout made from construction paper, and you’re done!
Cherry blossoms made with newspaper stamps
https://www.tiktok.com/@hoiku.labo/video/7337511024360213768Let’s make use of familiar materials! I’ll show you an idea for creating cherry blossoms using a newspaper stamp.
You’ll need drawing paper, crayons, newspaper, paint, and a paper plate.
First, use crayons to draw the cherry tree trunk on the drawing paper.
Next, put some paint on the paper plate.
A single color looks nice, but I recommend using two colors so you can enjoy the way they blend.
Finally, pick up some paint with a crumpled piece of newspaper and dab it onto the paper—stamp, stamp—and you’ll have a tree full of cherry blossoms!
wriggly caterpillar
https://www.instagram.com/p/C4Xq3hHPAlE/Here’s a perfect craft for two-year-olds: a wiggly caterpillar made with tissue paper.
Prepare construction paper, thick cardstock, tissue paper, double-sided tape, and round stickers.
Cut one circle from construction paper and five circles of the same size from cardstock.
Have the children crumple the tissue paper and stick it onto the cardstock circles.
Mixing different tissue paper colors before crumpling and attaching them will look cute, too.
Connect the tissue-covered cardstock circles in the color order they like, then attach the circle of construction paper with the caterpillar’s face drawn on it at the front—and it’s done! The color order and facial expression will showcase their individuality and make for adorable caterpillars.
A flower field made with fork stamping
https://www.instagram.com/p/C4Xxuwkp7MX/Let’s make a colorful, cute spring flower field using fork stamps.
Prepare paint, a fork, green-toned tissue paper, construction paper, and glue.
Tear the tissue paper vertically by hand to create stems and leaves.
Tissue paper is delicate, so tear it gently.
Once you’ve glued the tissue paper onto the construction paper to represent stems, start stamping with paint applied to the fork.
If you load the fork with plenty of paint, the flowers’ shapes and colors will stand out clearly.
The softness of the tissue paper will help express the movement of the stems and leaves, too!
Tulips made with sensory play
https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4icfVpA7_/Introducing a tulip craft made with sensory play that 2-year-olds will love and that both kids and adults can enjoy together.
Prepare paint, construction paper, and a zip-top bag.
Drip your favorite paints onto the construction paper, place it inside the bag, and seal it.
Spread the paint by pressing and sliding it from outside the bag.
Children can experience the cool temperature of the paint and how the colors mix.
Take the paper out, let the paint dry, and then cut it into the shape of tulips.
Finally, glue the cut-out tulip flowers onto another sheet where you’ve drawn the stems and leaves—and it’s complete!
A mimosa bouquet made from handprints
https://www.tiktok.com/@pi_chan.sensei__hoiku/video/7359818005552909575Here’s an introduction to making mimosa flowers—yellow blossoms that bloom in the warm spring months of March to April.
Prepare lace paper doilies, construction paper, yellow and pink tissue paper, double-sided tape, and ribbon.
Start by attaching the lace doily to the base construction paper and decorate it festively with washi tape or similar.
Trace the children’s handprints onto construction paper and cut them out.
Crumple the yellow tissue paper to resemble mimosa flowers, then stick them onto the handprint cutouts where you’ve placed double-sided tape so they don’t fall off.
Wrap the mimosa with the pink tissue paper, add a ribbon, and it’s complete! This is also a great wall art project for two-year-olds.
