sparkly wristband
When your child is putting on a little performance and you want to quickly make a small accessory, or when the costume feels a bit plain, why not try making a classic sparkly wristband? It’s super easy: just take some glittery tinsel garland—the kind you use to decorate rooms for parties—cut it to fit the wrist, then curl it into a loop and fasten it! Kids love anything that sparkles, and it instantly adds a festive touch.
It’s also perfect for performances with star themes, like “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”
hands-free pom-pom

Pom-poms are a big hit as dance props, especially in cheer dance.
They’re handy props that can be easily made by bundling together plastic ribbon (suzuran tape) or shiny tape.
Here’s a slightly evolved version of those pom-poms: hands-free pom-poms.
By attaching a string or elastic loop to the end of the pom-pom that fits over your finger or wrist, you can wear the pom-pom like a ring or bracelet.
Since your hands remain free, you can use other props or express more freely with your hands, which seems like it could really broaden your performance options!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Many of you were probably read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle as children, or have read it to your own kids.
Turning Eric’s works—full of colorful and beautiful gradients—into costumes might seem difficult.
However, even a single piece, like just a hat, can be more than cute enough.
Attach the caterpillar’s face and antennae to a hat and—voilà—a quick and adorable caterpillar is complete! As you can see from Eric’s work, there aren’t any perfect circles.
The irregular shapes give it character and make it all the more charming.
Ninja (plastic bag)
I think cool ninjas who deftly use shuriken and swords and move swiftly are popular with kids.
For girls, it’s kunoichi! Real ninjas don’t wear gold or glittery materials, but sports day costumes are special.
This outfit, which combines striking colors and patterns for each part, is very cute.
The cord tied around the waist features a large triangular piece to resemble a shuriken, and the cord wrapped around the calves matches the color of the jacket, making a nice accent.
It might be hard to make, but picturing your child’s smile and determination will give you the motivation to keep crafting.
Satin ribbon bracelet

If you want to make a scrunchie really easily, I recommend a ribbon scrunchie.
Just combine hair ties from a 100-yen shop with satin or organza ribbons.
The method is super simple: just tie two kinds of ribbons onto the hair tie with bow knots.
With 2–3 bow knots, you’ll have an adorable scrunchie.
It’s easy and the materials are very affordable, so it’s great for making on a whim!
Matching T-shirts
@nexus_official5 It turned a beautiful blue 😊 The kids are excited, saying, “I can’t wait to wear it.” 🫧#memorytree nursery schoolNursery teacher / Childcare worker#T-shirt dyeing

Introducing matching T-shirts that bring everyone together when worn at events.
Let’s get ready with white T-shirts, rubber bands, dye, a bucket for the dye, and a color fixer, and make them step by step.
First, tie the T-shirts with rubber bands.
The tied sections will resist the dye and create unique patterns.
Keeping the rubber bands on, soak the shirts in the prepared dye for about 30 minutes.
Take the dyed T-shirts out and soak them in the color fixer.
Finally, remove the rubber bands, wash, and hang to dry—done! They make great event mementos and are perfect for everyday wear, too.
A hat made with colored poly
@ho_bokuu I made Wanwan and U-tan hats for the sports day performance! They’re popular NHK characters ♡Sports Day PreparationKindergarten teacherChildcare student#NurseryTeacherDailyLife

Here’s a popular hat made from colored plastic bags that’s a big hit at sports days and recreational games.
Prepare colored plastic bags, double-sided tape, flat elastic, construction paper, rubber bands, cardstock, scissors, and clear tape, then follow these steps:
1) Stick double-sided tape along the edge of a colored plastic bag cut into a rectangle.
Fold it into thirds and thread the flat elastic through the fold.
2) Cut out facial parts from construction paper and stick them onto the bag where you threaded the elastic.
3) Gather the opposite end of the bag (the side without elastic), secure it tightly with a rubber band, then turn the whole thing inside out to finish the hat.
4) You can also cut ear shapes from cardstock and attach them between layers of the plastic bag for a cute touch.
Give it a try!
