Sunflower made by rolling

Sunflowers burst into large, vibrant blooms in summer.
Let’s make cheerful sunflowers by rolling strips of paper! Prepare long, thin strips of brown construction paper for the center, yellow for the petals, and green for the calyx of the flower.
For the petal and calyx strips, pre-cut slits to create petal shapes and similar details.
Then, starting from the center, roll the paper while securing it with glue as you go.
After rolling, open out the slit sections for the petals and calyx to finish! It might be best for staff to handle the detailed work like cutting the paper, and have older adults do the rolling.
bamboo-copter

Many older adults may remember playing with bamboo-copters (taketombo) when they were children.
Here’s how to make one using an ice cream stick for the rotor.
Use an awl to make a hole in the center of the stick, then insert a skewer or similar rod to serve as the handle.
To help it fly well, use a craft knife or sandpaper to add a slight tilt to the ice cream stick.
Once it’s ready, spin the handle quickly between your palms and let go to launch it.
Try competing with friends to see whose can fly the farthest!
August calendar collage

A collage artwork made using many materials such as newspapers, magazines, photos, and fabric.
By combining photos, illustrations, and text from multiple sources, you can create an entirely different piece of art.
Let’s adapt collage techniques to make a calendar.
Gather summer-themed items like stickers, masking tape, and cards.
Then start pasting them onto the calendar backing.
You can use a sample collage calendar prepared in advance as a reference, or let seniors paste items according to their preferences.
You might end up with a uniquely personalized calendar.
Making wind chimes

Its figure swaying in the breeze helps you forget the summer heat.
How about trying to make a wind chime using a paper cup? Cover the side of a paper cup—with the bottom cut out—with origami in your favorite pattern, then make several vertical slits to give it a lantern-like shape.
Create the chime part with thread, beads, and a strip of paper, and let it hang down from the center of the main body to finish.
Have all the participants make one and decorate them all around the facility! It will instantly create a summery atmosphere.
Plus, as a craft activity, it’s good exercise for the fingers.
Goldfish suncatcher

Here’s a recommended idea for a summer craft to make at a day service: the “Goldfish Suncatcher.” Goldfish made with transparent acrylic parts catch the light and sparkle, creating a cool, refreshing atmosphere.
By reusing an empty cheese box as the base, it’s easy, eco-friendly, and very stable.
Although it uses familiar materials, the finished piece looks highly polished.
The detailed finger work is also effective for fine-motor rehabilitation.
Participants can take their creations home and enjoy displaying this seasonally themed craft.
Summer wall decoration

Wall decorations that capture the feeling of summer are appealing because you can arrange them with vibrant materials.
Attach paper straws to both ends of a sheet of origami paper to create a sturdy base.
Place another piece of origami paper in a small plastic bag, then freely add stickers and beads inside.
By combining colorful pieces, you can express a lively, festive sense of summer.
Once you’ve finished the decorative piece, attach it to the base and thread a string through to complete it.
Hang it on the wall to instantly brighten the room and enjoy the season’s atmosphere.
The simple steps make it easy for older adults to do without strain, so it’s also recommended for summer events.
Wind chime made with origami

Origami wind chimes that coolly brighten up the hot summer are adorably eye-catching and make a perfect accent for indoor decor.
Fold a sheet of origami in half until it becomes one quarter of its original size, draw the shape of a wind chime, and cut it out.
Make a small hole in the center and thread a string through it.
By gluing together the pre-cut pieces, you’ll create a three-dimensional wind chime.
Change up the colors and patterns to add a personal touch.
Although it involves fine motor work, using your hands stimulates the brain, making this a great activity for seniors.
Once finished, the wind chime sways as if producing a gentle sound in the breeze, and just looking at it will make you feel cooler.
