[For Seniors] Enjoy the Hot Summer to the Fullest! A Collection of Easy Craft Ideas

Summer is the season when we start to sweat more and more.

Even indoors, you may sometimes feel the heat.

However, some older adults seem to have a harder time sensing heat.

This time, we’ll introduce some simple, recommended crafts you can do indoors during the hot season, when outdoor activities tend to decrease.

By creating summer-themed pieces, you can help people feel the season, even if it’s become harder to sense it.

After making them, you can take them home or display them at a facility, which can also give a sense of accomplishment!

Crafting involves fine motor movements of the fingertips and thinking through the steps in your head, stimulating the brain and serving as brain training.

Please enjoy making them at your own pace.

[For Seniors] Enjoy the Hot Summer to the Fullest! Easy Craft Ideas (1–10)

Mosaic Lantern Made with Tissue PaperNEW!

This is a mosaic-pattern lantern made by attaching tissue paper to a transparent container.

Using a brush, apply glue diluted with water and stick small pieces of cut tissue paper onto the container.

After covering it with tissue paper, finish by decorating it with your favorite shapes cut from black construction paper.

When the light is turned on, the shapes stand out, making it a piece you’ll look forward to enjoying at night.

The gentle glow softly illuminates the quiet hours of the evening, creating a soothing, healing atmosphere.

It also works perfectly as interior decor, so choose tissue paper colors to match your room.

Morning glory stained glassNEW!

[Summer Craft] Morning Glory Stained Glass
Morning glory stained glassNEW!

Cut out a stained-glass-style frame featuring morning glories from black cardstock.

Attach colored cellophane to the back of the frame, then layer metallic design paper over it and adhere.

Fix a craft band, formed into a ring, around the stained glass, and attach a straw-made sudare (bamboo blind) on top to finish.

Hang it on a wall, and it will feel like there’s a window framing a slice of summer scenery.

Although stained glass often suggests a colorful look, we recommend—just like the sample—using light blue for everything except the morning glories and leaves.

Create a fresh piece and let it evoke the feeling of summer.

Straw Hat Wind ChimeNEW!

[Summer Craft] Straw Hat Wind Chime
Straw Hat Wind ChimeNEW!

Why not add an extra touch of summer to your wind chime that plays such a cool, refreshing sound? First, take a craft band formed into a ring and attach four craft bands stuck into toothpicks in a radial pattern.

Apply double-sided tape over the whole surface, peel off the backing, and wrap paper cord tightly from the top without leaving any gaps.

Then remove the toothpicks and reinforce the inside with glue.

Next, wrap paper cord around a piece of thick paper cut into a donut shape and stick it down, then combine it with the first piece you made.

Wrap a ribbon around it, thread a string through, and attach a strip (tanzaku) and a bell to finish! Don’t feel limited to the natural color of straw hats—using paper cords in various colors will give you a unique and fun creation!

Pipe cleaner art: SunflowerNEW!

Simple Pipe Cleaner Art: Handmade Sunflower - How to Make a Sunflower with Pipe Cleaners
Pipe cleaner art: SunflowerNEW!

When you think of summer, you think of sunflowers! Here’s a project to make one.

Fold an orange chenille stem (pipe cleaner) in half at 4 cm and twist it to make 10 petals.

Use green stems to make 10 leaves, and accordion-fold a brown stem, then place everything together in the center of the sunflower.

Finally, make 8 small leaves and assemble it all, and you’ll have a sunflower full of summer vibes! As you work, chatting about memories like “We used to eat watermelon on the veranda,” or “I miss wearing yukata at summer festivals,” will naturally bring smiles.

It’s great finger work for fun brain training, and everyone will enjoy sharing summer memories together.

Sunflower made with paper bandsNEW!

How to Make a Sunflower Ornament: Easy Small Item Using Paper Bands/Craft Bands #Handmade #DIYCrafts #diy
Sunflower made with paper bandsNEW!

You’ll want to attach this to your basket bag! It’s a sunflower made with craft bands.

First, make the center of the flower using four bands.

Once that’s done, weave two bands around it to form the petals and complete the sunflower.

In the video, different-colored bands are used for clarity, but for the actual piece, please use brown and yellow craft bands.

Its plump, rounded shape is cute, and since it’s made from craft bands, it’s sturdy.

I’d be delighted to receive this as a gift!

Drip-linked Milky WayNEW!

Make it with transparent origami! Let’s create a stylish, beautiful Milky Way with a see-through look.

Cut transparent origami into strips, glue both ends together to form a teardrop shape.

Make several of these, connect them into a long chain, and you’ll have your Milky Way.

Once everything is linked, decorate it with stars made from yellow origami to finish! The teardrops here use blue, green, and purple origami, but feel free to choose any colors that match your vision.

It’s a great idea that creates a lovely atmosphere whether you hang it on a wall or suspend it from the ceiling!

Sunflower: Quickly make it by simply cutting the petals [Easy Craft] [100-Yen Store DIY] [Origami Craft] #100yen #diy #daiso #recreation #craft #easy #seniors #kids #watermelon
Origami craft: sunflowerNEW!

When sunflowers are in bloom, it really feels like summer has arrived, and their vivid blossoms lift your spirits.

This piece is about creating a sunflower—an emblem of summer—by combining torn pieces of paper.

For the center of the flower, use finely torn brown origami; by packing the torn pieces into a frame, the layered steps start to look like a mesh.

Once the center is complete, attach the petals and you’re done—the impression changes depending on which origami you use for the petals.

Let’s bring out originality through attention to details such as the shapes of the parts and the choice of background.
