Half-cut watermelon, quarter-cut watermelon. Red watermelon, yellow watermelon—please make your favorite versions ❤️ I think they’ll look super cute displayed together with yesterday’s stag beetle! I also tried making a yellow watermelon, and it turned out really cute 🥰 For the yellow watermelon, I used check-pattern origami for the rind. Here’s an easy watermelon idea you can make with origami.

Prepare green and red origami paper.

First, let’s make the rind with the green sheet.

Fold the paper in half twice to form a smaller square, then open it up and use the creases to fold all four corners toward the center.

Open the folded parts again, then fold each corner along the crease lines and make a second, tighter fold (a wrap fold).

Repeat for the remaining three corners.

Next, fold the four remaining white corners inward to match the width of the wrap folds.

Now use the red origami paper.

Up to folding all four corners to the center, the steps are the same.

From there, fold each of the four corners inward by about 2 cm.

Layer the two pieces and glue them together, and your watermelon is complete.

Try different shapes like a half-cut or quarter-cut and have fun!

So nostalgic! Here’s how to make a cicada—the quintessential summer creature—that almost sounds like it might start chirping.

When folding the wings, tilt your folds slightly so they angle diagonally.

At the end, when bending the left and right sides, make diagonal folds while keeping a good balance between the cicada’s body and its wings.

Finish by drawing the face with round stickers and a felt-tip pen! Cicadas made with checkered origami paper are adorable, too.

It’s also fun to create a big tree on the wall and have the children stick on the cicadas they made.

Our family usually plays in the mountains and rivers, but the kids had an amazing time at the sea and are already saying they want to go again 🥰 Yesterday they picked up seashells and spotted tiny fish, and they were totally absorbed chasing them!! Let’s make a crab that lives in the sea or rivers.

Prepare origami paper, round stickers, and felt-tip pens.

Crease the origami paper, open it while puffing up the center to form the crab’s body, and fold the claws, pressing the folds as you go.

Let’s make a summery cream soda with origami.

Prepare one large sheet of origami paper, three small sheets, and some round stickers.

For the drink portion, fold the large sheet horizontally, then shape it evenly on both the left and right sides as you adjust the paper.

Cut a small sheet into quarters to make the cherry fruit and the cherry stem.

Once finished, attach them to the cream soda.

Finally, take one small sheet, offset-fold it into a triangle, and roll it to create a straw.

Give this delicious-looking cream soda a try!

Let’s make a seashell out of origami that captures the feeling of summer.

Fold the origami paper into a triangle twice, then unfold it once.

Fold the left and right corners in to meet the center line.

Fold those corners back outward, then fold the creases so they align with the center line.

Next, tuck the left and right corners up toward the center line so they go underneath the small triangle, and fold the tip of the small triangle slightly inward.

Finally, fold the top corner down to shape it like a shell, and you’re done.

Add patterns to make it cute!

Let’s make colorful and cute morning glories out of origami that bloom cheerfully under the summer sun.

First, fold the origami paper in half into a square twice, then unfold it.

Next, fold all four corners toward the center, flip it over, and slightly fold in the four corners.

Flip it over again, and for each loose corner, make two diagonal folds so it forms a peak; after doing this for all four corners, open the paper.

Finally, turn the paper over, and fold the four corners you just peaked toward the center along the creases, and you’re done.

Try making lots in different colors and decorating with them!

Let’s make a sunflower—one of the iconic flowers of summer—using origami.

Prepare one sheet of origami paper.

Fold the paper in half into a square twice to make crease lines.

Continue folding the paper in sequence from the outside toward the inside.

Finally, draw a pattern in the center of the sunflower with a felt-tip pen to finish.

It might be cute to make many of them and arrange them like a sunflower field.
