For those who love handmade crafts, 100-yen shops are indispensable.

Year by year, the variety of artificial and dried flowers has grown, and the way they stock all kinds of seasonal blooms—almost like a real florist—is truly impressive.

Why not try making an arrangement using artificial flowers from a 100-yen shop? It’s very simple: just insert the artificial flowers into floral foam.

For the container, you can also use a vase, ceramic cup, or glass from the same shop.

You don’t have to worry about changing water, so you can display it anywhere—that’s another great perk.

Cosmos in 2 Minutes! Easy Version

Here’s a very easy way to make cosmos flowers using scrap materials.

Fold origami paper three times, then use pinking shears to make cuts on one side.

Snip between the petals with scissors, apply double-sided tape to the bottom, and roll a plastic bottle cap onto it to secure.

Stuff the inside of the bottle cap with crumpled yellow tissue paper, curl the petals, and you’re done.

If you’ve got lots of spare plastic bottle caps, why not take this opportunity to put them to use?

Autumn is a season with many delicious fruits, and among them, grapes come in many varieties.

And when it comes to symbolic autumn flowers, cosmos are a classic.

Here’s an idea: frame and display these two together.

For the grapes, to create a three-dimensional look, cut several half-circle pieces of origami paper to the same size and assemble them as if making half of a paper ball.

Stack the origami sheets and trace the template from above, then cut them all at once for efficiency.

For the cosmos, use pink, red, white, and yellow paper; simply cut petal shapes and layer a few together.

Try decorating the basket with grape leaves and tendrils as well.

Macramé, which is also highly popular as an interior decor item.

How about trying to make pampas grass and fallen leaves with macramé, which is great because you can knot it without needles or machines? All you need is rope—and a pair of scissors to get started right away.

Loop short pieces of rope onto a central rope, then simply unravel the strands.

First loosen them gently by hand, then use a comb or similar tool to patiently tease the rope apart until it becomes threads.

Finally, trim any excess with scissors and shape it, and you’re done.

Moon Lantern

Here’s a lantern craft idea that brings gentle light at night.

Inflate a balloon and paste tissue paper onto it.

If you’re working with older adults, prepare pre-inflated balloons beforehand.

Also, pre-cut parts such as stars or faces and have diluted glue ready.

Once prepared, secure the inflated balloon so it won’t move and apply hand cream over the entire surface.

Tear the tissue paper into suitable sizes and use glue to attach it along with the pre-cut parts.

Leave the top area uncovered.

After you finish pasting, let it dry overnight, then pop the balloon and remove it.

Attach a handle, and it’s complete.

Moon-viewing Rabbit

[UV Resin] How to Make an Otsukimi Rabbit: Moon Festival Bunny Necklace [DIY]
Moon-viewing Rabbit

When it comes to moon-viewing, rabbits are indispensable.

So, let’s make a moon-viewing bunny using UV resin! For this project, you’ll need resin liquid, a UV light, tweezers, and a mold to cure the resin into a circular shape.

Many 100-yen shops carry these items, so give it a look if you like.

The workflow is to brush a thin layer of resin into the mold and cure it, then create the rabbit parts.

The fine work may be tricky at first, but take it step by step.

Once the parts are finished, assemble them with resin.

Add color at the end, and you’ll have an adorable moon-viewing bunny.

Moon-Viewing Card

Moon-Viewing Card

Among September events, moon-viewing (Otsukimi) is one of the most familiar, isn’t it? When the moon-viewing season arrives, be sure to make an Otsukimi card.

It’s fine to use materials you have on hand, like origami paper, construction paper, fabric scraps, or chiyogami.

Try freely creating your piece by cleverly arranging essentials of Otsukimi such as rabbits, pampas grass (susuki), and the moon.

You might also achieve a more festive finish by adding accents with Japanese patterns or gold and silver materials.

Incorporating this into a day-service craft activity should make for a lively session, creating while sharing fond autumn memories!
