Soul’s Refrain -Tamashii no Rufuran-BABYMETAL

A cover of the iconic anime song “A Return to the Soul” (Tamashii no Refrain) sung solo by SU-METAL during BABYMETAL’s legendary live show Legend 1997 Apocalypse.

I’m excited to see what the song becomes with her vocal power, and it delivers with remarkable expressiveness and stability.

The original is full of emotion with compelling dynamics throughout, and this version offers a different kind of dynamic contrast.

Some fans aren’t big on covers, but this might be a true hidden gem that deserves wider recognition.

For fans of Western music, especially those who love British rock, Wembley Arena is like a sacred place, and having a Japanese female artist perform a concert there is like a dream come true.

Even so, her confident live performance is truly impressive.

What surprises me when I watch BABYMETAL videos is the number of views.

This video has surpassed 26 million views, easily exceeding a level that even top Japanese artists take years to reach—or never reach at all.

They are truly outstanding, bona fide idols and artists born in the Heisei era.

White LoveBABYMETAL

I used to have some doubts about what it would be like when idol vocals are combined with metal, but after listening many times and getting used to it, the heavy instrumentation and the sweet female voice fit together exquisitely.

And I feel that balance is really good.

This track is a bit minor, but it’s worthwhile.

This is a work released in August 2025 by BABYMETAL, a group active on the global stage.

The track is a collaboration with Spiritbox, a highly acclaimed Canadian metal band, and it brilliantly fuses BABYMETAL’s signature symphonic elements with sharp, heavy metal sounds.

Many listeners will likely be captivated by the interplay between SU-METAL’s clear, crystalline vocals and the emotional performance by guest singer Courtney LaPlante.

It’s the kind of song that will give you a powerful push when you’re aiming for a big goal or need to fire yourself up.

A quintessential BABYMETAL track that weaves sweet melodies into a heavy metal sound, released in April 2025 and included on the album “METAL FORTH.” Its collaboration with singer Poppy drew a lot of attention.

The passionate lyric “Charge forward, fueled by anger” leaves a strong impression.

With its powerful beat perfectly balanced by pop sensibilities, this song is a must-listen for anyone seeking a fresh musical discovery.

As expected, when talking about the three members of BABYMETAL coming together and getting their start, you can’t leave out Sakura Gakuin, the idol group whose TV show they all regularly appeared on.

Within that group, they began as a sub-unit called the Heavy Music Club (Jūon-bu), which was the origin of BABYMETAL.

At first, many people thought they might be a slightly odd unit aimed at idol-otaku, but despite their cute appearance—typical of junior idols in elementary and middle school—they showed high-level skills in singing, dance, and performance.

Thanks to strong acclaim overseas, they came to be recognized as a talented group around the world and, in a sort of reverse import, in Japan as well.

Here is a singing scene from a Sakura Gakuin event they participated in during their graduation year.

It’s a video that fans still talk about as a legendary stage, where everyone sings at maximum ability to match YOI-METAL’s vocal tone and style.
