white pattern on the chest
The Asiatic black bear is a species of bear native to Japan. The “tsukinowa” in its Japanese name refers to the white, crescent-shaped (arc-shaped) marking on its chest. Because this marking resembles shapes of the moon, such as a full moon or crescent moon, it was named “tsuki no wa” (moon ring).
