[2026] Songs That Calm the Mind: Music That Soothes the Heart (101–110)

1/1(from 「Ambient 1: Music for Airports」)Brian Eno

This piece was created to make waiting at the airport more comfortable.

The soundscape woven from looping piano and synthesizers gently soothes the listener’s mind.

It’s a track from the 1978 album “Ambient 1: Music for Airports,” a landmark work in which Brian Eno established the new genre of ambient music.

Its innovative production method—manually splicing tape—also drew attention.

Designed with the unique concept of being “interesting but ignorable,” it’s perfect as background music for work.

Give it a listen when you’re tired or want to spend some quiet time.

Arthur's ThemeChristopher Cross

A 1981 work by Christopher Cross.

In Japan, it’s very well known under the Japanese title “New York City Serenade.” His clear, translucent voice is incredibly soothing.

Incidentally, during his childhood from ages five to nine, he lived in Japan (Yoyogi, Tokyo) due to his father’s job as a military doctor.

Space Ambient MusicCryo Chamber

This is an ambient piece that evokes the vastness of outer space.

Ambient music is a type of environmental music that you can listen to without focusing on it.

It’s often used for falling asleep or relaxing.

Since it’s over 40 minutes long, it might be nice to put it on before bed.

What’s NewHelen Merrill

It’s a slow standard number with a very beautiful melody.

Many jazz singers have performed it, but I especially recommend Helen Merrill’s light, resonant husky voice.

It feels like a song that suits a late-night setting, perhaps while savoring the aroma of brandy.

V.A.IN YA MELLOW TONE

A pioneering work that laid the foundation for modern jazzy, mellow hip-hop.

This album series launched a variety of artists, each gaining their own fans.

If you’re looking to relax, this is the album.

I recommend playing it softly in the background as BGM.

O pure goddessMaria Callas

O pure goddessMaria Callas

The most famous aria from Bellini’s opera Norma appears here, and the performance in the video I introduced is by the great Maria Callas.

While the opera’s story itself is quite extreme, this piece is a masterpiece in which the heroine, Norma, sings out resoundingly, harboring certain feelings in her heart.

EVERY MOMENTSAM OCK

A delicate and beautiful melody that sinks into the heart—Sam Ock’s song leaves a lasting impression with its transparent vocals and deeply emotional lyrics.

Released in June 2013, this track blends elements of Christian rap, K-pop, and singer-songwriter sensibilities to create a unique sonic world.

Produced by Sam Ock himself, it delivers a message that accompanies listeners, centered on the theme of one’s relationship with God amidst faith and everyday challenges.

It’s a perfect piece for unwinding before bed or for moments when you want to calm your mind.

Let its soothing tones wrap around you as you spend some time reflecting on yourself.
