Shanks

Luffy’s straw hat was entrusted to him by Shanks when he was a child. Shanks was a pirate who visited Luffy’s hometown and played a crucial role in inspiring Luffy to admire pirates. The hat originally belonged to Shanks, who inherited it from Gol D. Roger, and it is a very precious treasure to Luffy.
