Formed primarily by members from Hokkaido, Sakanaction has been active on many fronts—not only performing at live shows and festivals, but also appearing on TV and radio.

Their appeal lies in vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi’s high-pitched voice and their unique melodies.

If you haven’t listened to much of their music, be sure to check out “Music.” Its melody carries a relaxed EDM vibe that pairs perfectly with the soaring vocals.

Yoru no Honki Dance is a four-piece dance-rock band based in Kyoto.

As their name suggests, they produce many upbeat, danceable tracks.

Among them, I’d like to highlight Crazy Dancer from their first major-label album.

It’s a track with a pleasantly edgy guitar sound.

Once you hear it, you’ll surely want to check out their other songs as well.

They’re also regulars at various festivals, so I hope you’ll check out their live performances, too.

KEYTALK built their name by organizing their own events and, in just four years, managed to embark on a nationwide tour.

After their major-label debut, they became known for providing many TV theme songs and commercial jingles.

Among their tracks, one particularly high-energy song is “MONSTER DANCE.” By pairing classic rock with layered choruses, they’ve crafted a dance number perfect for festivals.

Incidentally, the whistle you hear is played by drummer Yuki Yagi.

A four-piece dance-rock band, the telephones.

They create many chill tracks that make full use of synthesizers.

Their shape-shifting musical style—sometimes relaxed and laid-back, other times bursting with a sense of speed—captivates many listeners.

First, I’d love for you to experience their greatness by listening to their signature song, “Adventure Time.” The track modulates several times, leaving you with the sensation of having listened to multiple songs in one.

I My Me MinePolysics

If you’re a music fan, you’ve probably wished to discover artists with a truly unique sound.

That’s why I confidently recommend POLYSICS.

They’re a rock band that debuted in 2000—but their take on rock is a bit different from what you might expect.

For example, “I My Me Mine” pairs sharp, edgy sounds in the verses and pre-chorus with a chorus performed on a recorder.

They have plenty more songs with one-of-a-kind structures, so give them a listen.

DISH//, the dance-rock band fronted by Takumi Kitamura.

They’ve been getting a lot of attention for their appearances on music shows and THE FIRST TAKE.

Some people might associate them with gentler songs like “Neko.” However, their 2023 release “Manmanzai” is an unusually high-energy pop tune for them.

Pay attention to the lyrics that rhyme with the word “manmanzai” in the title and the choreography themed around the celebratory “banzai” gesture.

FLY AGAINMAN WITH A MISSION

One of the groups leading Japan’s rock scene is MAN WITH A MISSION.

Their wolf-head appearance is unforgettable once you’ve seen it.

They’re known not only for releasing numerous classic tracks, but also for contributing to volunteer activities and even having a documentary film made about them.

Among their live staples that always get the crowd going is the dance number “FLY AGAIN.” Be sure to check out their live footage and feel the energy for yourself.
