[Craft] Nodding Santa Claus

[Craft Play] Christmas Project: Let’s make a head-bobbing Santa!
[Craft] Nodding Santa Claus

Let’s make a moving craft! Here’s an idea for a nodding Santa Claus.

You’ll need a paper cup, an awl (or hole punch), a pipe cleaner, origami paper, construction paper, and tape.

First, make a hole in the bottom of the paper cup with the awl and insert a spring-shaped pipe cleaner.

Next, attach the Santa Claus face you made from construction paper to the end of the pipe cleaner.

Finally, decorate the paper cup to look like Santa’s body, and you’re done! The Santa that nods side to side is so cute.

Make-and-play fun! Here’s an idea for a Santa Claus “Stuffed Belly” game.

You’ll need: cardboard, white construction paper, black construction paper, brown construction paper, paper cups, origami paper, aluminum foil, pens, a utility knife, scissors, a plastic wrap tube, paper plates, newspaper, copy paper, yarn, and tape.

First, draw Santa Claus on the construction paper, paste it onto the cardboard, and cut out the mouth area.

Next, make paper onigiri (rice balls), chicken, and cake.

Finally, set up some grassy patches, make a reindeer, and place it on a paper-plate sleigh—and you’re done! Dodge the grass while delivering the food to Santa!

A tree of single scissor cuts and string threading

Here’s a fun Christmas tree craft idea that involves scissor work for fine motor skills.

Start with a construction paper base for the tree and decorate it with various ornaments.

Cutting origami paper is an activity kids can really enjoy.

Punch holes in the base with a hole punch, and once the kids freely thread string through them, it’s done! Display the finished original trees indoors or in the hallway to make the wait for Christmas Day even more exciting.

Snow globe made from a plastic bottle

For Christmas crafts, we recommend a snow globe made with a plastic bottle.

A nice point is that you can make it using familiar materials like plastic bottles and paper cups.

To make it, place your favorite motifs and materials inside the plastic bottle, fill it with water right up to the brim, and screw on the cap.

Finally, set it on a paper cup base and it’s complete.

Have fun decorating by drawing on the paper cup or adding stickers! For the materials you put inside the bottle, items from a 100-yen shop work well, and punching white paper with a hole punch to create “snow” is also lovely.

When you flip the bottle over, you can enjoy watching the materials move inside, which kids are sure to love.

A tree made by threading yarn through it

Why not try making a cozy, heartwarming Christmas tree using yarn? It’s a great craft idea to do with children, too.

Punch holes in construction paper with a hole punch, and let the kids thread yarn through to form the shape of a tree.

They can thread the yarn straight or diagonally—anything goes! Using several colors of yarn instead of just one will give it a stylish look.

For the finishing touch, add colorful pom-poms, or stick star-shaped stickers in the open spaces for a lovely effect.

Christmas games using paper cups

There are lots of cute Christmas-themed paper cups on sale, right? How about using them to play a variety of games? For example, you could race to build a tower out of paper cups, or play a shell-game-style challenge where you guess which cup is hiding an item.

If you put a star on top of the paper cup tower or use ornaments as the hidden items, it will feel even more Christmassy.

There are plenty of other games you can try too, so if you’re interested, be sure to look them up!
