Compilation of Unusual Transforming Guitars from Around the World (11–20)
G-707

This guitar has the body and head connected by a stabilizer.
You can play it as an electric guitar, but strictly speaking it’s a “guitar-shaped synth controller” that lets you connect a synthesizer and output the synth sound along with the guitar sound.
La Baye 2×4

When people think of oddly shaped guitars, they often picture highly decorated designs, but there are also guitars with the decoration stripped away.
This one is the so-called “Pencil Guitar,” known for being used by Bob 1 of DEVO, Robert Mothersbaugh.
Its design, which seems to retain only the bare minimum necessary parts, is novel in its own way.
Obscura

This is a custom guitar previously used by Steffen Kummerer, the leader of the German technical death metal band OBSCURA.
Its striking feature is an asymmetrical, extremely elongated, radical body shape.
You can also sense the attention to detail in the headstock design.
Reverse Flying V

The classic of unconventional guitars: Gibson’s Flying V.
In 2007, Gibson itself suddenly released this reversed Flying V.
Despite the very limited production numbers, it apparently didn’t sell very well at the time, but it seems to enjoy a hidden popularity among collectors.
Turbulence

Most electric guitars have 21 to 24 frets, with even the high end around 27, but this Gary Kramer Turbulence has a whopping 36 frets, right up to the bridge pickup! It was also sold under the name Delta Wing F-1.
The body has a distinctive, unconventional shape, likely designed to make the high register easier to play.
USA Map Guitar

This strange shape is—believe it or not—a guitar in the shape of a map of the United States! The simple finish makes it feel even more map-like.
Gibson and Epiphone once sold limited-production versions, and it seems American custom builders make similar models as well.

Crystal Guitar

This is the guitar used by hide from X, and it’s the one guitar kids in the ’90s admired.
While most have a fairly standard shape, there are many different models.
The sound does tend to be harder than wooden guitars, but if you prioritize looks, it could be worth considering.
