[J-POP] Certified Pro if You Can Play It!? An Insanely Difficult Piano Piece
Groovy J-pop that blends the sounds of guitars, bass, drums, and various instruments with distinctive vocals.
In fact, it sounds insanely cool on the piano, too.
That said, as you can imagine, since these aren’t originally piano pieces—and because you have to express both the instruments and vocals on a single piano—mastering them is extremely difficult!
This time, we’ve handpicked some particularly high-level tracks from among those J-pop songs that are tough to play on piano.
The difficulty varies greatly depending on the arrangement and performance approach, but the more complex the arrangement, the cooler it tends to be.

New Treasure IslandSakanakushon

Sakanaction’s “Shin Takara-jima,” which became a major hit with its unique blend of electronica and rock, is undeniably quite difficult to reproduce on piano alone, given the diverse sounds of electronic instruments.
However, because the piece features many repeated rhythms and phrases, once you get the hang of it, you may find it surprisingly playable! To internalize the rhythms and leaps, start by practicing in small sections, then gradually connect the parts together.
In conclusion
Did you enjoy these incredibly cool yet difficult-to-play J-pop masterpieces on the piano? This time, I featured performances with extremely challenging arrangements, but since there are sheet music editions in various arrangements available, I recommend first getting a feel for the rhythm and flow with an easier version before tackling the harder ones.
It takes a lot of practice to polish them, but the exhilaration when you can finally play them is unbeatable! If you’ve found a song you want to play, go ahead and start practicing right away!
