Tokugawa Tsunayoshi
Tokugawa Tsunayoshi is the one known by the nickname “Dog Shogun.” Tokugawa Yoshimune was the fifth shogun of the Edo period, and it is historically well known that, out of his love for dogs, he issued the Edicts on Compassion for Living Things. It seems that this policy did not apply only to dogs but also included cats and birds, as well as shellfish and fish.
