In Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, the hero’s initial vocation is a Minstrel. You can change vocations later on. In fact, the protagonist isn’t human but one of the angels. This was the first Dragon Quest in which the main character is not human.

Flute of the Heavens

In Dragon Quest XI, you use the Skystone (Heavenly Flute) to summon Cetacea, the flying white whale. By riding Cetacea, you can freely soar around the vast world. In terms of game progression, this happens around the Sikessia (Snaerfelt) Badlands to the Sacred Land of Lamunda (Arboria), so if you’re stuck, try focusing your exploration around that area!

Don Mohamed

This is a piece of armor that Don Mohame, known as the “master of feather robe crafting” in the village of Tepa, will weave for you if you give him certain items. Obtaining it was a hassle—not only did you have to gather the items, but you also had to quit and restart the game once. However, its performance was guaranteed; having this armor drastically changed the difficulty of clearing the game, making it one of the most powerful pieces in the series.

Himiko

Queen Himiko of Zipangu, the golden land in the Far East. Her name shines, but the villagers live in fear of a vicious monster called Yamata no Orochi, and to protect the nation from it, they have been offering young women as sacrifices. Seeking to learn the truth, the heroes go to meet Queen Himiko, but she behaves with extreme arrogance and ends up driving them away. And no wonder—Himiko’s true identity is the Yamata no Orochi.

Baron's Horn

An important item in Dragon Quest IV, it has the power to summon the Wagon. If used on the field before entering Death Mountain—the climax of the story—it calls back the separated wagon so the entire party can take on the final battle together. In the remake, it can also be used during combat: allies’ horses may charge in to help, scattering the monsters.

Flora

She is the daughter of Ludman, a wealthy man from the town of Salabona, and a gentle, refined woman known for her long blue hair that reaches her waist and the large pink ribbon that ties it. She falls in love with the protagonist at first sight and becomes one of the potential brides in the marriage event that occurs during the game. If you marry her, you gain benefits such as being able to stay for free at her father Ludman’s mansion and receiving item gifts along the journey, and the children’s hair will also be blue, inherited from their mother.

Chamorro

He is depicted as a small boy wearing glasses, dressed in a yellow robe, a distinctive hat, and a purple cloth resembling a kesa. He became the first glasses-wearing character among the series’ companion characters. At first, he tries to turn away the protagonists who have come to borrow the “Divine Ship,” calling them outsiders, but with help from Chamoro, who has received a divine oracle, they are allowed to borrow the ship. Chamoro himself also joins the party, saying he wants to witness the fate of the world.
