Mississippi River

In 1983, just before the opening of Disneyland, water from the Mississippi River—an emblem of America—was actually brought over and poured into the Rivers of America during the launch ceremony for the Mark Twain Riverboat. Knowing the background, the scenery looks a little different, doesn’t it?

Among the areas in Tokyo Disneyland, the Beauty and the Beast area is one that most vividly recreates its world. Greetings here use words inspired by France, the story’s setting. The moment you step into the area, you’ll feel as if you’ve wandered into a French village. Along with the atmosphere of the buildings and the music, be sure to pay attention to the greetings and enjoy them as well.

In the Hundred Acre Wood where the story is set, the river’s flow is one of the cherished landscapes. The light-blue lines drawn on the floor are a production that evokes that river. Realizing that even the design underfoot is connected to the story makes you admire the attention to detail.

The well on the left side of Minnie’s house is called “Minnie’s Wishing Well.” If you toss a coin in, you can hear Minnie Mouse’s voice coming from the well. There are various messages, so be sure to drop in a coin when you visit!

Splash Mountain

The fastest attraction at Tokyo Disneyland is Splash Mountain in Critter Country. During the final drop, it reaches about 62 kilometers per hour, giving you an overwhelming sense of speed. Incidentally, Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo DisneySea surpasses that at around 75 km/h.

Donald Duck

In the study that appears right after you board the Haunted Mansion, Donald Duck is actually hidden there. The pattern on the backrest of the chair in the study is shaped like Donald Duck. There are lots of hidden characters like this throughout Disneyland, so be sure to look for others too!

999 people

There are 999 ghosts living in the Haunted Mansion, and they’re actually waiting for the thousandth one. In the end, there’s even a scene where you’re invited to become the 1,000th spirit. The attraction is full of tricks and surprises, so don’t miss a thing!

April 15, 1983

Tokyo Disneyland opened on April 15, 1983. As Japan’s first Disney park, it has continued to captivate many guests from both Japan and abroad for many years since its opening. When it first opened, there was no Critter Country, home to Splash Mountain, nor was there Toontown, where Mickey Mouse and his friends live.

Sitting next to Minnie Mouse and holding her hand is Walt Disney’s brother, Roy O. Disney. Roy supported Walt on the business side and, together with him, founded The Walt Disney Company.

You have a chance to see a shooting star in Pirates of the Caribbean right at the beginning of the attraction, when the night sky appears. It’s the area on the right side where the Blue Bayou Restaurant is, so the food might catch your attention—but be sure to keep an eye on the night sky!
