In the early 2020s, Gen Z artists like PinkPantheress went viral with distinctive sounds that incorporated drum and bass, and the genre continues to evolve in its own way today.

Suicide BasslineMefjus & Kasra

Hailing from Austria, Mefjus and Kasra, who heads the prestigious London label Critical Music, are key figures leading today’s drum and bass scene.
This track, included on a single released by Mefjus in 2014, is a classic that blends the aggression characteristic of neurofunk with a playful sense of humor.
It also helped build anticipation for the album Emulation, and its VIP version went on to win Best Track at the Drum&BassArena Awards in 2016—clear evidence of its long-standing acclaim.
If you want to be overwhelmed by fierce beats and a heavyweight bassline, this one’s irresistible!
Valley Of The ShadowsOrigin Unknown

In the jungle scene, this work is passed down as the pinnacle of the style known as “darkcore.” It was crafted by the legendary duo Origin Unknown—Andy C and Ant Miles—who run the prestigious label RAM Records.
The eerie vocal sample lifted from a BBC documentary is iconic, and among fans it’s affectionately known as “31 Seconds.” In fact, it first appeared as the B-side to the 1993 single The Touch, and there’s a remarkable anecdote that it was produced in just four hours.
When it was reissued in 1996, it even entered the UK charts, making it a historically significant masterpiece that earned acclaim beyond its genre.
It’s a track you absolutely should hear to understand the roots that connect to today’s scene.
Be TrueCommix

Based in Cambridge in the east of England and led by George Levings and Guy Brewer, Commix were a driving force in the 2000s scene and are a must-mention when talking about drum and bass.
This track, included on a single released by the prestigious Metalheadz label in July 2007, is a timeless classic that has remained one of their signature tunes.
Its restrained beats meld with soulful, emotionally stirring fragments, creating a unique world where stillness and heat coexist—fascinating in its contrast.
It also served as an important prelude to their acclaimed 2007 album “Call To Mind,” and gained further attention when Burial delivered a remix in 2010.
It’s best experienced soaking in on a late-night dance floor, but it’s also highly recommended for fans of techno and house.
Renegade Snares (Foul Play Remix)Omni Trio

Known as a pioneer of ambient drum and bass, Omni Trio is the solo project of British musician Rob Haigh.
In the early days of jungle in the 1990s, he established his reputation with a distinctive style that fused delicate melodies with rugged beats.
The release I’m introducing today is a single he put out in November 1993 on the prestigious Moving Shadow label—a classic that became legendary thanks to a remix by Foul Play.
Its surging piano lines and intricate breakbeats capture a moment that can truly be said to have defined the history of jungle.
Later included on the album The Deepest Cut Vol.
1, this track is a must-hear for anyone who wants to experience the fervor of the time.
